New muzzleloader

Just took delivery of my R J Renner Wesson express sporting rifle.The gun features a 30 half oct barrel in
62cal with Forsyth rifling.It has French walnut stocks and sports a pewter nosecap.

In the late 60's I had an imported (Navy Arms ? ) .45cal Wesson rifle that was a far cry from your nice Custom Renner Wesson.

I especially like the snail, around the nipple seat.

That looks to be a fine rifle. :D

The Wesson style is very unique, something you don't see often, at least not around the rendezvous' in these parts. Not many folks go for the big .62 caliber either. It burns a whole lotta powder and lead!

I have a custom made left-hand early Hawken style fullstock flinter .62 that likes 120 grains of Goex FFg behind a 342 grain patched .610 round ball. As I have gotten older, I find myself most often taking my much lighter .54 caliber rifle.

You gonna hunt with that Wesson?

Yup, its going to be more of a hunting gun than a target gun do to it s big diet of lead and powder.

Don't that style of rifling need a hole bunch of powder to shoot well? Nice looking rifle looks like it will carry well. Let us know how she shoots.
