Post by Nath »

work a treat!

When trying that test load that grouped (at last) last night just before sun down I spotted this feller on some fresh cut grass a few hundred yards away . So tonight I sat and waited for him and yep he come down to 90 paces. I stopped him and sat his shoulder on top of my front. The reversed 180grn fmj put him straight down passing through both shoulders.

Not just at the moment Jeremy.

It is a semi trunacated bullet but rounded(if that makes sense), I was filing the copper off the nose but then thought of trying some reversed!

Here is them filed.

I've heard that those "backwards" bullets don't do much damage to furs--seems counterintuitive. What is your impression Nath??

Good shooting and planning, by the way.

Greetings
Some years back I loaded up some 220gr cast SWC backwards in caliber .41 mag. Pushed them about 950 fps with Unique to see what they would do. Worked fine. Did not try any mag powder chargers. Tore nice clean wadcutter holes in paper and were not less accurate at 25 yards. Later I found a 210 grain caliber .41 mag mold so that was the end of the road with those. Cannot see any reason they would not work in any caliber at reasonable ranges.

Many years ago a friend worked who for the Forest Srvice was loading .338 Win. mag bullets backwards and using them to shoot branches off of some ancient old growth fir trees that stood protected at the base of MT St Hellens to re grow a line of trees that were near extinction. Those trees may still be standing because they were/are on the southern slopes of the mountain. He was taking the seeds to Montana to start them in a test plot. They will only grow in a certain elevation and with similar ground conditions.

He told me that those bullets would cut branches like no other way.

Used to load .38 spl hollow base wad cutters backwards for use in a 2" revolver. Made a mess out of jacks from a 4".
