Another Weekend In the Alberta Outdoors (Pic Heavy)

Post by Win94 »

Even though the forecast was not favourable, we packed up the tent and headed west a couple hours to the area we do our hunting, fishing and camping throughout the year. here are a few pics:

Getting some grub ready after setup:

Always with a levergun in tow when out in the bush:

Shooting a few groups with some new handloads:

The Alberta Rockies:

A bull elk peering through the bushes at us:

A couple rams looking rather royal:

For those unfamiliar, we were about 200kms straight west of edmonton then another 100kms south in the Cadomin area. Despite unfavourable weather forecasts, we had a decent weekend. :)

I received the Winchester a couple weeks ago. It had decorative tacks all over the stock. The reason I still obtained it is because it is my vintage (circa 1972). The pic may not show it but my attempt at removing the tacks and refinishing with wood filler, failed miserably. I will post pics later on with questions as to why it didn't work and how I can fix it. So far it detests my handloads of 31 grains of IMR 3031 ( yes I know I'm over max but have owned 94's that loved 31 grains) but it prints factory Remington 170 grain Core Lokts respectably at 1.5" at 100 yards. The carbine is obviously a mutt with that brass crescent buttplate but I don't mind it too too much....

Nice pictures and especially nice country. Don't look like there's no drug dealers or illegals lurking around there!------Sixgun

So that's where my truck was this weekend, I thought my son had it! Of course, with all the running around in college he's doing, I wouldn't be surprised to see it up there.

Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a beautiful area.

I like to see these pictures. We here are from all parts of the world. We need to see more. I think I'll start a post to show off everyone neck of the woods. Thanks again.

Glad you and the family had a good time, did you catch any trout for breakfast. No better place than the rocky mtns. One of these days I will make it up to the Fraser Plateau BC for a horse ride and see some of that 4 million acre cattle ranch from the 30's. Did you draw any tags yet. danny

Nice pics, Im down in calgary and didnt get out of the house much with the rain and reno's to be done.

My wife is a nurse at the childrens hospital in calgary, she says theyve seen more tick bites then they usually do in the spring, may be to do with the mild winter in some areas here, also as my friend Ian says, "where there's sheep, there's ticks. Only thought I'd mention cause your pic of the sheep.
