A bit o' horse trading

Post by Bill in Oregon »

And this nice, late '60s Ruger Standard came home with me today. The barrel isn't bent -- it's the camera lens. Might swap in a Clark or VQ trigger and adjustable rear, but keep the original parts, of course! This is a clone of my first handgun, a birthday present when I turned 18 in 1971. It's sure a classic, and it is all Bill Ruger, may he RIP.

A classic and I like those grips on it.

PS: Forgot to mention that I was glad you already knew about the bent barrel... I just knew I'd feel bad bringin' something like that to a new owner's attention. :P :P  And, yep, cameras certianly can bring out those hidden flaws.

That's the first handgun I ever shot. My dad bought one in 66 or 67 brand new. He still has the box and paper work. Very nice guns for plinking and more accurate than I can hold. Great find.

Hondo, this one dates to 1968. This was a complicated swap involving a Marlin 39A and a High Standard Citation in return for the Ruger, a very nice commercially made Snider and some store credit.

How I longed for one of those in the 70's. Sure brings back lots of memories going thru the Gun Digest and Shotgun news on cold winter nights.

I just noticed the front sight has been filed. Guess I need to shoot it and see what it was regulated for.

I believe I have shot every brand of American made semi-auto .22 and nothing has compared with the durability and reliability of Rugers. -----------------6
