Smallest practical handgun for protection from bears... ;-)

Post by AJMD429 »

This is a story of self control and marksmanship with an itsy-bitsy shooter by a woman against a fierce predator.

What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?

The Beretta Jetfire 25 ACP...!

"While out hiking in Alberta Canada with my boyfriend we were surprised by a huge grizzly bear charging at us from out of nowhere. She must have been protecting her cubs because she was extremely aggressive. If I had not had my little Beretta Jetfire with me I would not be here today!

Just one shot to my boyfriend's knee cap was all it took...the bear got him and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace.

It's one of the best pistols in my collection.....

Now THAT is my type of humor! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I started to read the story and was getting ready for some bs, like "I shot the bear in the eye" or some liberal response like "I told the bear that it would have to be incarcerated".-------6

Gee, and I was all ready to post this as a serious response to a serious question as the minimum practical handgun:

Not too sidetrack. Always manage to pick a site by the loudest and most obnoxious campsite mates. A little bacon grease or honey drizzled between their ground sheet and tent floor will give you a 30-40 second warning. Not to mention the coons and possums bothering them after dark. Least thats what I have heard over a campfire or 2.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

Sad part is that carry of a handgun for personal protection is not legal up here. The folks in charge will say it can be done, and a very few permits do exist, but for the average person, nope, not gonna happen.
I hope you guys can keep the anti-gun nuts at bay south of the border.

OTOH, last time I was up in the Great White North, you COULD carry a short-barreled shotgun:

That must be a Mossyberg - looks (probably just pixellation of the picture) like it has moss growing in the barrel.

Wasn't there someone here on leverguns a few years ago who legally carried an old, grandfathered russian revolver in the Canadian woods?
