Stop it!!
Just stop it. Quit buying ammo. Right now!!
If everyone in the country would just stop buying ammo, any ammo, everything would be back to normal in 30 days.
Especially boycott anyone selling over normal prices, like the gunshow sharks.

How can I not buy something that's not there to not buy?
Re: Stop it!!
You'd be more effective if you yelled at folks in front of your local WalMart.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

If I happen upon some ammo that interests me I'll buy it if I feel like it. I'm on the road away from my family right now earning my pay and I spend my money how I see fit. Period.

Re: Stop it!!
If you could get 100% of the gun owners to quit "panic-buying" ammo, surely you could get 50% of them to vote out anti-gun politicians at the next election, but I don't see that happening very consistently. Probably less than 1% of them ever write letters or do anything that 'active'.
As far as panic-buying and other 'herd' behaviors, it's the same phenomenon that happens when you know the stoplight ahead will be red for 30 more seconds, so you start gradually slowing down so you'd be at the light which would just be turning green when your speed is down to about 45, just requiring a few seconds of hitting the gas again to be back up to full speed, BUT six or seven morons who "are in a hurry" pass you on the right, then cut in front of you, having to come to a complete stop, stacked at the stop light. So, you wind up waiting on their sorry butts, and THEY messed it up for everyone, who has to stop-and-restart, but ironically, they are the ones tailgating you and flipping you off for "going too slow". If the whole road full of drivers would cooperate and drive the way you were doing, EVERYONE would have gotten farther down the road, faster, with less gas used.
On the other hand, since everyone IS buying ammo, the shelves ARE barren, thus prices ARE high, which is THE ULTIMATE LONG-TERM SOLUTION, because that means suppliers will generate enough extra revenue to justify paying the overtime and investing in any new equipment or supplies they need to meet our needs, AND do so with a price which eventually will equilibrate back down as supply meets demand.
There are two kinds of 'intervention'...
The Free Market is pretty much the ONLY way to always provide the best spectrum of choices along a continuum of highest-quality to lowest-cost, constantly adapting to meet the needs and expectations of the consumer. Government doesn't even come close...
(I know I'm preaching to the Choir... )

Re: Stop it!!
Your a fine fella jnyork, but gotta be with OS on this one.
I be walking down the Walmart store isle(or wherever)and come up on a nice brick of .22's(or some other wanted ammo)even a 50rd .22 single box (heck even some shorts)
I am grabbing that goomer faster than wiping a knat off my nose!

Re: Stop it!!
I think we all stopped buying ammo as soon as they ran out
Re: Stop it!!
I don't know who's getting all the ammo around here, but it's nobody I know. Only thing I been looking for is 22 rimfire which is impossible to find. Thankfully I have lots of lead, bullet molds, primers and powder. Only thing I need to buy is .22 ammo.

Re: Stop it!!
The shelves are bare, but it wasnt exactly what the amo "ran out", theres more in circulation than there was before all this went crazy. I agree with the sentiment that JNYork has expressed. Theres a lot of ammo, just being bought up like theres no tomorrow. Not that if everyone totally stopped buying ammo, but if they went back to normal buying habits, on the shelf supplies would quickly go back to normal. There is NO "shortage" in the big picture! There's a lot of people buying way more than they ever used to, so the casual user cant find any just to enjoy shooting.

Re: Stop it!!
Of course I has been since before last summer since I was in a store buying any ammo.
Re: Stop it!!
Whuat, you mean there actually are people that BUY ammunition Hmmph I thought that was just for poor folk that didn't shoot much.jnyork wrote:Just stop it. Quit buying ammo. Right now!!

Never have been one to do much about padding the pockets of the gunshow sharks, matter of fact didn't even bother to go to the last one here, didn't figure it to be worth the gas to town let alone the price to get thru the door.

I think that the more ammo there is "on the street" the better off we all are.

Re: Stop it!!
Some vendors may be sharks, but as long as people are willing to pay their asking price there is nothing immoral about it. Immoral is selling a drowning guy a life vest, not charging panic prices for ammo. Obama has a lot of people spooked, why not blame him instead? This is what happens when we elect liberals, end of story.

Gosh, I haven't bought any ammo in months, so don't blame me. (You wouldn't have any CCI standard velocity .22 LR on you, would you ...?)

Re: Stop it!!
This ammo and gun buying thing is mob mentality right now. I probley have a lot of stuff I reloaded 40 years ago still sitting in the garage. I can afford to wait untill sanity is restored. I got to admit for the first time I now want a AR or similar even though I had some pass through my hands 40 years ago and found no reason to keep them back then. People always want something that is hard to get even though they had no intrest when tons of it were available and cheap. Stupid human nature.

Re: Stop it!! I'm sorry, but it's just not likely.
I'm 70 this year and I've never seen anything like what is going on now in this country. Normal, level headed people are becoming afraid of their Government. The Government elected by them and/or their neighbors.
I was beginning to doubt myself, but then I noticed that I'm hearing a lot of people saying "I've never seen anything like this." Then it dawned on me, that's because this hasn't happened before in living memory of the USA.
30+ years of Marxist thought and propaganda, mascarading as "Liberal/Progressive" thinking has taken it's toll. Those rights and morals that created and built this country are no longer respected, much less observed. New, imaginary, "Group rights" are being heralded as being more "Fair" and folks just need to accept them because "Times are changing." "We don't need a Constitution."
So where are we? Out of time, out of rights and out of ammo!
The problem is not our politicians, it is our neighbors and our friends. Unless they turn off Network News, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars and TMZ and wake up, it will only get worse.
"Stop it" I just don't think so.

Personally I take great satisfaction in the amount of money I've made selling ammo for 500% profit.

Re: Stop it!!
Well, I stop most every evening for a few minutes at my friend's gunshop, and he can only get a few cartons of 22 shell in a week, and they last about a day, the rest of the week, I see people coming asking for .22 ammo, and I can tell they got caught flat footed without much ammo on hand. I can't hardly blame them for trying to buy some. Now me on the other hand, saw this coming 5 years ago, and I did not get caught low on ammo, but I did pick up few guns and extra mags at the very start of this latest panic, And sold one AR at a healthy profit, but not a price at which I wouldn't have to pay today to replace it. That is just the way it is. Anyone that got caught flat footed on the ammo deal, has been not paying attention for a while.

Same here. Used the 'AR' proceeds to order some replacement parts for leverguns, and pay some ordinary household bills, and buy a few boxes of 45 ACP while I still could find some...Lastmohecken wrote:Well, I stop most every evening for a few minutes at my friend's gunshop, and he can only get a few cartons of 22 shell in a week, and they last about a day, the rest of the week, I see people coming asking for .22 ammo, and I can tell they got caught flat footed without much ammo on hand. Not just our 'neighbors and friends', but sometimes ourselves as well - I know lots of fellow gun owners who have always "voted union", and lots of fellow church-members who have always "voted morality", and both of those votes translate to police-state socialism in the long run. Our nation was set up originally with a Constitution, which strictly limited the federal government's role and power, yet so very many of 'us' keep wanting to make exceptions, as long as it favors our moral preferences, or our pocketbook. Add up all those seemingly minor wrongs, and you get a socialist police-state, 'Christian' or not. . .JP_TX wrote:The problem is not our politicians, it is our neighbors and our friends. Re: Stop it!!
Stopped by the local bulk ammo dealer and picked up 200 rounds of PMC 9mm because they had it and I was running low. Also found a deal on bulk CCI 22 Mag....250 rd boxes for $50. Can't beat that deal so I grabbed a couple of bricks since I've been eyeballing a Henry Goldenboy in 22 Mag.
They've said the .223 is starting to come back on the shelves...not that I need any. Or have the room to store anymore.
CCI & Aquila 22LR is starting to appear around town. Again...not that I need anymore at this time, but I'll pick up a box or two if I have the spare change on hand.
I was browsing the CMP website and they have plenty of 30-06, 7.62x51, .30 Carbine, and Aquila 22LR for sale. Of course, you'll have to tack on the hazmat fee on top of things.

Re: Stop it!!
The local shops have some ammo, low in general, but they have various makes of 223 and other things that have been in short supply on the shelves has been in stock. Even Wal mart had some, 100 rd boxes of Federal 55 gr for $35. I bought a box of 45 auto there for a neighbor that needed some.
I sold several boxes of 22's to a freind/dealer for $40/box of 550. I'll be glad when things loosen up and I can replace them, but I didnt mind spreading some around.

Re: Stop it!!
I bought a .40 caliber handgun recently because I can find a little .40 around, and not much else. I have some ammunition for most everything else. I have always kept some on hand for range sessions. I assume most people do. Am I stocking up on anything? No. Do I buy something when I get the chance? Yes, I do. If I have a firearm and don't have any ammunition to use in it, then the firearm is just a paperweight or a club. I think everyone should have at least enough ammunition for a range session at home. I don't have a closet full of ammunition, and don't plan on it.
