what's cookin' ?
I got thru til noon without eating. But when I fed Chico I got hungry as he was.
First I mixed up some bread dough and made flat bread fried in butter.
That made me even more hungry-er so I chucked some bacon in the butter.
That flat did it to me. I chucked a couple of eggs in the pig fat.
Now I've got the wood stove cranked up waiting for the water to heat up.

Farm raised rabbit slow cooked with fresh garlic, onion, spices in a dutch oven simmering in 2 litters of Coke.
Then served over rice with a reduction of the sauce.

We'll be having grilled cod and marinated flank steak tacos this afternoon, with atomic buffalo turds as appetizers.
What are ABTs? They are a cardiologist's nightmare: jalapeno stuffed with a cheddar-filled little smokie in cream cheese, onion and turbinado sugar all bound up in bacon and grilled.

Cream of wheat for breakfast. Yogurt, 3 oranges, 1 banana at break time. Don't know for lunch yet, probably a lean hamburger and some coleslaw. I'm determined to live to a ripe old age as there's plenty of graves I want to pi*s on.---------Sixgun

I saved a very meaty hambone, from last Sunday's dinner, so today I'm making a huge pot of Split Pea Ham Bone Soup, with a pound of split peas, a diced carrot, a diced onion, a minced garlic clove, some salt/pepper & a chix bouillon cube.
The aroma's driving everyone here crazy (it's almost lunchtime), but I'm gonna let it simmer for a few hours, until the meat melts off the bone - aka: no wine, before it's time.

Re: what's cookin' ?
Pete, half the fun of split pea and ham soup is smelling it simmering all day!
Re: what's cookin' ?
good eats guys. anyone make flat bread, or bannock at home? mine is very basic and simple and almost as easy as krusteaz, but not light like pancakes. anyone else have a recipe?
krusteaz, btw, is great for frying fish and my favorite prep for halibut.

Re: what's cookin' ?
I've got a batch of pea soup going in the crock pot too. Lots of ham, split peas, and water, maybe a bit of salt if the ham isn't one of the super salty ones. Pea soup, cornbread, and a glass of milk - perfect dinner.
I was going to make pork and sauerkraut yesterday, as the pork chops we get from the butcher are often a bit odd in cut - good for slow cooking more than frying. But I opened up the package of four and they were such nice, perfect chops that I couldn't stand to do anything but fry them
I'll find some of the oddball ones in the freezer next week and make my kraut then.

Re: what's cookin' ?
Mescalero, make it just like any meat gravy. When you take the meat out of the pan add a big table spoon of flour to the grease and mix it in good. Add enough milk to the mix to make your gravy less milk thicker gravy, more milk a little thinner gravy.

Re: what's cookin' ?
I ate weeds from my front yard. Found some wild purslane growing so picked a bunch. Pickled 3 large jars worth, had some in a salad but most recently I parboiled some for a minute then tossed with sesame seed oil, salt, pepper, shoyu, and roasted sesame seeds Korean style, and ate it with hot steamed rice. Tastes ALLOT better than it sounds.

Ted, ain't it alot of work curing those turkey side to get a mess of bacon? The sides off a 350 pound hog are alot easier to cure.
