If I recall correctly, he and Edward Drinker Cope, another paleontologist of the day, literally fought over dinosaur fossils. One or the other was accused (apparently rightly so) of stealing a railroad car loaded with fossils as it sat along a siding in the fossil country.

I don't think these are posers. Although I'm not sure about the shoes the ol boy in the front row on the right is wearing.
