Okay, I finally got around to taking some pictures of my best SAA. It's a Colt Frontier Six Shooter, (44-40), 4 3/4" barrel that I just can't resist. This was an unbelievably good specimen except, some one (expletives deleted) had removed almost all the blue with, I'm guessing, 3M scouring pads. A good friend, who was dieing sorta forced me to buy it. I couldn't stand letting it alone so I sent it to Alan Hartan and had it refinished. It needed no metal work and there is only a slight scratch on right grip and a very small divot out of the left. Things happen over the course of 119? years. Yes, I shoot it. At Landrun I dropped it and a 1906 gun in my holsters and competed all day with black powder loads. A squirt of Ballistol after about four stages and they ran all day.

They did a great job! A 44-40, 4 3/4, 1st generation Colt SAA can't be beat in a revolver. I have two in 3/4 and two in 5 1/2. One is a new 3rd generation. They just feel right in my hands. RR7
Ok, I can breathe now- literally, thats Gorgeous. OK so how much does it hurt the value. I would say it is worth more now than with all the Blue scrubbed off.
If You don't mind telling - how much does a job like that cost ? I probably wouldn't have it done to My present Colt but I have one on the burner that is pretty much as Yours was. Only on this one They buffed it off and it is Shinee. The Guy that inherited it swears it is Nickle. When He comes to His senses We can talk.

pwl44m; By the time I paid shipping with the cost of insurance for it's value it was close to a grand. I don't think it hurt the value any, maybe worth at least the price I paid for it and the finish.
For some reason, foolish I know, I feel I have to rescue any old Colt SAA that has been disfigured and I can get it for a decent price. Of course Alan is happy to cooperate on these projects.

Dang, your going to make me get mine out and use it.
Speaking of, mines a 3rd gen 44 spl with the 4 3/4 barrel and was tuned up by Bob Mundan. Since his passing do ya think the gun has more value and i should keep it in the box.
