Well, it is also a rifle cartridge and I know a lot of you are fans of the S&W Revolvers, so:
Looking at an old (1920s) S&W K-frame in .32-20, which I want for a shooter, not a collector. Older reblue (matt finish, not high polish) with the markings still crisp. About 95% or perhaps a bit higher finish level. 6" barrel, fixed sights (although I have a Wondersight in a box somewhere that would fit the frame).
So, what's a fair price? I've wanted an S&W .32-20 for a while, but the high condition originals are really expensive and the others seem beat to death.
Thanks.

Re: OT-Fair Price for an S&W K-frame .32-20 That's Refinishe
It's been several years since I played in the world of old S&W revolvers but if I had the hots for one of those and found one in the condition you describe I'd say $400-450. An excellent bore, chambers, tight action, etc would be worth up to another $100 or so if it were me.
But I may be on the cheap side...

Years ago I had both a Colt and S&W double action 32wcf pistol. Sure wish I had one now. If you can you need to get one, great sixguns. Robert Johnson sang about his, "32-20 Blues", give it a listen.

Don't forget to use good light and check for a barrel bulge. They are very common in .32WCF handguns from firing jacketed loads that created too much friction for the available pressure.

Really? I thought the K Frames didn't have that problem. I know my Colt is prone to it.blackhawk44 wrote:Don't forget to use good light and check for a barrel bulge. They are very common in .32WCF handguns from firing jacketed loads that created too much friction for the available pressure.

Well, IMO one in 100% ORIGINAL condition would be worth about $800-$900.
A refinish alone, let alone a (matte) non-shiney S&W blue (more deduction for non-original appeartance), is a 50% deduction, and 95% of that makes my wallet say it's about a $350 gun - IF the barrel's not bulged, $200-$250 if it is.
O'course, my opinion's worth exactly what you've paid for it.

Thanks to all of you. I've offered $325, but he's stuck in the $525 range.
