Forum maintenance

Post by AmBraCol »

Forum maintenance coming up soon. I'm not sure of what day or hour, depends on what the rest of my schedule holds in store. I just want you to know that if you get a notice that the forum is not operative - DON'T PANIC. I'll be doing a back up of the database and then an installation of the newest version of the software (to patch some holes in the roof, so to speak). So, I'm not going to "announce" or "sticky" this - since apparently about 80 % of the members don't read the announcements or stickies. I'd like to ask y'all to keep an eye on this note and if it drifts to the bottom of the first page, please bump it back to the top - either until Friday, March 7 or until the maintenance gets done. :-) Thanks for your patience, help and understanding.

Thanks, guys. I'm hoping to get this done sometime over the next couple of days, depends on other matters which also demand my attention. By announcing it ahead of time folks should be aware that when they get the dreaded "forum unavailable" that it should be a matter of a few minutes or a couple of hours at most, the Good Lord willing. So thanks for the "BTT's"...

Hey, at least SOME of read the 'announcements' - I always figure maybe I won something...

Methinks it already happened... at about 10:45 CST for about 20 minutes give or take.

Anyway, that's when all I could get was an Error 404...

Nope, that was a server error, had to reboot the server. :( When it happen you'll see a notice advising that the forum is unavailable - all it takes is for me to get about a two or three hour stretch that I can dedicate to the cause - just in case. It shouldn't take that long, but one never knows. And then there's the possible (not probable) scenario in which I put the forum on pause and we lose lights for a couple days ...

Thanks much for the heads up Paul. I'll sure have my fingers crossed that all goes well and hope for the best. If we lose one more forum dedicated to the lever gun I'm going to have to get on line at a methadone clinic. I'm still trying to recover from the loss of Marlintalk.com.

Well, guys, sorry to say - that was a dry run. I paused the board, did a backup and went to upgrade the forum software. oops! They just came out with version 3.0.0 - and I got cold feet. There's no way I'm gonna do that big of an upgrade without a dry run on a temp forum first. So, standby for the upgrade at a later time. The backup lets us go back to today, prior to this post in the event something happens. In the meantime, I'll be playing around with upgrading a temp board to version 3.0.0. If it goes fine, fine. We'll do another backup and then upgrade this forum. If not, well, we'll see what happens. So go ahead and let this thread drift down the chain. I'll post a fresh "heads up!" before we go for the upgrade. Thanks for your patience. I'm outta time for today, will get back to it as time permits.

Rule of thumb for software....never install the .0 version of anything. Everytime I have, it has come back to bite me. Let some one else work out the bugs.
