Snap in Drilling Scope Rings

Post by 6pt-sika »

We have a drilling that was made by "Ernst Kerner & Co Suhl" . The thing is 16-16 and 7x57R . We've had it maybe 3 years now and I just got around to shooting it a couple months ago .

Anyway this thing has the German snap in scope bases , but it came to us without the rings .

I am hoping to find a set that are actual rings that will snap in and not the claw type that was fairly prevalent when this gun was made .

Any idea of places to look out of the ordinary would be greatly appreciatted !

This old gun did very nicely with RWS 150 grain factory ammo and the open sights at 50 yards , so it's my thinking with a scope and handloads I should be able to make it into a nice 150-200 yard gun .

Those claw mounts were hand fitted to an individual gun IIRC. You may find a set that could be fitted but I wouldn't spend a bunch of money on a set without trying them to see if it`s even possible.

I'd recommend contacting New England Custom Gun, specialists in German guns, sights, etc, etc.

I met a fellow at the Baltimore Gunshow a year or two ago that said he did stuff like this . As in he would fabricate something that looked correct and was functional , now I need to remmember what I did with his card .

After looking on the NECG website I found the following ,

http://newenglandcustomgun.com/Gun_Serv ... Mounts.asp

It appears what I need will cost me about $750

IMHO thats a bit more then a tad HIGH !

I'd almost be better off buying another drilling with rings and scope I found for $3500 rather then putting $750 in rings for this one and then need to buy a 1-4 type scope .

Now Craig, you gots to pay to play. That's what you get for giving up all those old Marlins. LOL Get out your file and make you a set. You can buy blanks and fit the prongs, and the treat them. I would love to have a drilling in 7x57. All mine have been 38-55 or 9.3 x 72 or 9.3 x 74(this one hurt). Later, moodyholler
