.357 Ranch Hand--new member
Hello All,
New member here and want to say HELLO to everyone. I'm in so. Fla, 59yo, have a small collection of handguns ('bout a dozen) and one lever gun--Rossi in .357. Due to an unforseen circumstance, I've found that I have some extra time on my hands and on a whim I bought a Ranch Hand. I decided to Steve McQueen it, Nate Jones slick it up and Chochise Leather (David LaFlair) holster it. I shortened the stock, forend grip and barrel-now 9" and recrowned. Made a brass butt plate as well as a brass forend plate (couldn't find a brass cap for a round barrel), refinished the wood with Tung Oil and wrapped the lever with an old belt. David shortened the holster upon my request but when I received it I shortened it even further and then decided to completely cut it apart and re-sewed everything back to it without the two piece leather on it. Don' tell David. At this time it remains unfired--holds 5+1. What was I thinking??
Would it be okay if I try (and I really mean Try) to send some photobucket pics?
As I have almost no real knowledge of lever guns, i'll probably just lurk/learn and read the topics.
My best regards to All, John

I don't know where Blaine gets "Nearly" mandatory, it could get U kicked off the Forum for not posting Pics,(well not really) But We really like Pics, especially ones of something U did Urself.

Welcome aboard! Nice work there! You may not know unless you've been lurking here that you can post pics directly as well. Each of your pics should have a url associated with it--to be placed (copied and pasted) between the bracketed img symbols resulting from clicking "img" above your posting draft.

1. Just so's you know there's another way to post photobucket pics...
If you post this, it's a 'link'...
http://s1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg518/jlpics2012/
but if you post this*, it brings up the picture right here...
{IMG}http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... 3.jpg{/IMG}
* that is, if you use "[" brackets instead of "{" ones...I altered the brackets so instead of the picture you'd be able to see what it looks like when you're 'composing' the post. On photobucket, you hover over your picture then there will be a set of four 'choices' below the picture, and the bottom one I think is the 'forum' one, called the "IMG code" by Photobucket; click on that one and it should say 'copied' (I also do Ctrl-C because sometimes the copy doesn't seem to 'take'), then use Ctrl-V to put the phrase looking like above into your post.
This will be the picture below, because I just did the Ctrl-V to past the 'IMG' stuff, without altering the brackets:
2. ANOTHER way to get some pictures into a thread is to right-click on the picture wherever it is (another thread, another website), pick "properties", then when the http....gibberish is visible, put cursor in it, click to highlight all of it (or use Ctrl-A then Ctrl-C), close that window, then back to the leverguns window, click "Img" above the window, and then Ctrl-V will insert the http....gibberish part into your post. Most, but not all (they have to be .JPG, and not over 1000 pixels, I think) pictures will be successfully 'stolen' that way and inserted into your post. Don't do it if the picture is something copyrighted I guess, but I've never gotten in trouble. Usually I do it to show a product you can buy off a website, so if anything I think they're glad, as long as I also post the URL of the website.
Regardless - looks like a fun and cool project.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the "very" helpful posting procedures!
As far as "how does it shoot" or cycle--don't know yet. However, if I was in ear shot of its racking sound--I would either not move a muscle or zig zag the hell outta there--kinda like running from a Florida gator. Just reordered a folding leaf rear sight--buggered up the first one during my modification to it and I may put a shotgun bead front sight in the forend collar--don't know yet--the sight radius is quite small. Basically it'll be an aim point shooter. I'm sure, on a bag or tree limb it should dial in just fine. I realize what it is but just wanted to build it. She draws ok and holsters ok--slightly awkward but not that bad. I have an H&R .22--13" barrel that isn't much easier. I'll post that comparison pic when it's composed. Overall, there's only a 2' difference.
Again, Thanks Everyone.

Re: .357 Ranch Hand--new member
Upon actually trying, I found the Ranch Hand much easier to draw as opposed to the H&R .22. Any guesses on which one is the tack driver?

Looks like you may have figured the oics out, but on the one that didn't take you have one too many sets (front and rear) of bracketed img's in the address.

HELLO...nice place to hang out... :)
Re: .357 Ranch Hand--new member
Welcome! And I LIKE the way that you've modified that Ranch Hand quite a lot. I've often looked at one and thought the same thing that you did - it's needs bobbing on both ends.
GREAT JOB!! And the brass is a super nice touch.
