Californians, place your Amazon orders now

Post by El Chivo »

I just read that as of Sept 15, Amazon will be collecting sales tax for orders to CA addresses.

I heard there have been suits but I thought Amazon would hang tough. But no.

It won't make a difference to me. I don't buy a lot of big ticket items on Amazon so saving on sales tax was just gravy. In almost all cases Amazon has a lower sale price than any B&M store in my area so I'll keep buying from Amazon.

And the fact that Amazon has conceded the battle on collecting sales tax only means that they're now building up their entire distribution network in CA. So in the near future you'll be receiving your order faster. And there's even talk of Amazon offering same-day delivery service to selected areas.

Actually I read that Amazon was pulling out all of their distribution centers from CA in a rapid response to that Governor's decision to impose collection of sales tax on Amazon with monthly payments to the state.

They just completed a third distribution center in AZ and have broken ground on a fourth...

One reason that benign-sounding "licenses" and "permits" and so on can do harm - once we get used to the concept that the government has the ability to 'grant' a special 'privilege' to someone, and that said privilege can be taken away if they don't pay the piper, we all can be sucked dry financially, directly and indirectly, without much recourse.

This has been an ongoing battle for years, and it's no surprise it finally happened. A LOT of mail order companies have been doing it already, and it won't matter a hill of beans if Amazon has a B&M here, they still have to collect sales tax on EVERY order made by someone in CA.

Get used to the idea because I bet ya all 50 states will be on board before long. Once they get word of the gravy train they will want to jump on. It's easy money for them, and the way the government is spending their are going to want every penny they can get. Right or wrong!

If true, it will serve as an excellent example of liberal Big Government running businesses out of town. I'm very sorry for the CA people who will loose a job because of it.

Something Libertarians have grasped for years but most Americans still have not awakened to.
