I stopped by a local shop today and looked at a new Browning BL-22 Micro Midas.
Basically a little Trapper style carbine. I thought it was pretty slick and
since most of my .22s are long barrel target rifles I thought it might fit in quite nicely.
I've never had a BL-22 and my only experience with one was one that belonged to a friend.
That one wouldn't work for snot right out of the box. Was his a fluke?
I'd like to hear from you guys that own, or have owned a BL-22 before I go pick this one up.
Thanks,
jb

I've never found one where I can work the lever without pulling the buttplate right off my shoulder. Perhaps a slip-on rubber pad would help, but yes...sweet gun overall for sure.
I've got the FLD BL-22 with nickel plate. The short lever throw is great, leave your thumb on top of the stock and flick your fingers to operate the lever. Almost as fast as an auto. Don't try the lever flick at port arms, the hammer will pinch the web of your hand.

Thanks!
Doc,

I bought a slightly rough grade II BL 22 several years ago. It's one of my favorite guns and for some reason, I can see the open sights better on that gun then most iron sights of any kind, so it has always been a favorite of mine. I would hate to give mine up.
My BL22 is my favorite lever to handle, most fun lever to shoot and gives my "big boy" .22s a run for their money when it comes to picking a favorite .22.
Maybe I got spoiled with the short throw since it was my first lever .22. I've owned a Marlin 39 or two and handled 9422s but the Marlins never felt "right" and the 9422s got too expensive too fast when I thought about picking one up to try out.
FWIW, I prefer the Buckmark to the Ruger MKI/II/III. So now I probably managed to offend EVERYONE...

I've heard that before...
A Henry 22 Mag is actually something I might get someday, and they look more 'normal', so who knows, after I make that step, maybe I'll jump up to a Browning or Winchester.

Owned a BL-22 for the last three years...it is by far my all-time favorite .22...sold my CZ 452 government model to a friend to buy it...i like it so much that i'm thinking about getting a second... :)
I'll chime in. I just got a BL 22 a few months ago and I love to shoot it. It is very accurate and a true joy to shoot. The short throw lever is great. The only problem with the short throw lever is that it is so easy to cycle and shoot through a box of ammo before you know it. Good news is that .22s are cheap.
I've had a BL-22 for many years and it is one of my favorites. I like the small size which makes it easy to slip into a pack frame when hiking. Mine is accurate and fun to shoot. I also have a Ruger 77/22 if I want a full sized rifle in .22, but the little Browning is usually the one that goes along to the camp site. It has also seen its fair share of hunting rabbits. I also like the fact that it can shoot all the standard .22 stuff, short, long and long rifle if necessary. Most don't care about this feature but I have on occasion needed to be able to shoot .22 shorts because that is all I had at the cabin. Why you say? Because of noise and because I bought a ridiculous amount several years ago when a gun shop was going out of business. Seems strange now, but at the time it made sense. . . . Great little levergun.
