I've perused that first site many times... can't find any good hats around here, even though lots of folks wear them. Those stores that I find selling them never have one my size, anyway.

I had these guys make me a custom hat over 20 years ago. I still wear it. It's a little softer, maybe not quite well formed as before... but then neither am I!!!

I reckon I will just stick with Resistol Hats. I typically can always pick one of those up for $100 or less it is a straw.

I keep my eyes open for what I call old "LBJ" or "Harry Truman" hats. Most are Stetsons and I like the 3" brim. I recrease them myself.

I have three that vary from "Sunday go to meeting" to work hat in condition.

I'm wrearing a 3" brim in my avitar pic. I've never been a fan of the wide brim for myself.

OH BOY, IS THAT EVER A GORGEOUS WESTERN HAT SITE; WOW !!! THEY'RE DARN PROUD OF 'EM TOO I SEE.
I HAVE MY HATS MADE BY " STAR OF THE WEST RIGHT HERE IN RCSD. I LIKE THE OLD STYLE AND HAVE HAD A QUIGLEY STYLE AND A TOM MIX STYLE FOR MANY YEARS NOW. THEY ALSO MAKE A GREAT CATTLEMAN STYLE AS THAT IS FAR AND AWAY THE BEST SELLER FOR HAT COMPANIES. BACK IN PHILADELPHIA--NRA SHOW-- I HAD SOME KRAUT OFFER ME 1200 MARKS FOR MY OLD SWEAT STAINED DIRTY 'GUS' HAT THAT USED TO BE A RESISTOL WESTERNER UNTIL I HAD IT RE-BLOCKED TO THE 'GUS' STYLE FIFTEEN OR EIGHTEEN YEARS. I TOLD HIM ' HOWIN'ELL AM I GONNA GET ALL THE WAY HOME WITHOUT MY HAT??' I DO NOT THINK HE QUITE UNDERSTOOD THAT NOR DID I HAVE A CLUE HOW MUCH 1200 MARKS WAS. NOR DO I KNOW TO THIS DAY.

THAT WOULD BE AN " OPEN ROAD " IF MEMORY SERVES. I HAVE ONE OF THOSE FROM WAY BACK MYSELF. BOUGHT IT UP IN BOISE AND IT HAD BEEN SITTIN' THERE SINCE MOSES WAS A CORPORAL.

Had a hat made a couple of years ago. Really like the style, but wouldn't deal with the maker again.

Here's a pic of my Dad and I at the Painted Canyon Information Center and overlook in North Dakota.

We actually watched a whitetail buck skirt around a butte right in front of us. There's buff, elk and loads of deer, sage hens, pheasants, etc... in those badlands around Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

Kim, I like that hat. Very nice... Mine was sorta like that crease, but with a 5" brim & pencil roll it ended up flatter in the brim that I expected... but for shootin' it was better than now... where if sorta hangs down. Who was the maker, and what sorta trouble would one expect?

Chuck, that hat is almost identical to the one I bought the first day after I got home from VN in 1973! And I still have it.

20Cows, them narrow brims are fine for those that don't need the shade... but this palefaced, former redhead needs as much shade as he can get!

Pitchy, That is some old railroad scrap found up in the
Yacolt burn area of SW WA. No idea what it did but it is some interesting old iron.
They logged that area in the very early 1900`s by rail. there were old RR grades all over the area. I used to hunt that area a lot.

Some nice hats on here. I have worn cowboy hats all of my life, but never owned over 2 or 3 at a time, because of the cost of good felt hats, until recently, of course I wear straws and ball caps too.

I usually kept a nice Resistol for dress, and loafing, and usually wore a cheaper felt for the farm, or a straw, but a couple of years ago, I went into our local western store to look for a new felt hat for the farm, and was shocked to find out that they didn't stock anything except those darned low crowned rodeo hats with the cattlemen's crease. I guess that is the best seller now, but I can't wear most of them, because they just don't fit my head right, and I can't keep them on in the wind. I finally gave up on shopping locally and went to ebay for older hats.

I found some older Resistols and Stetsons with tall crowns on ebay, most had hardly been worn at all, so over a period of time I purchased several, and now have a pretty good collection of both farm and dress hats. I usually reshape the hat completely before I am satified, but I do the work myself, so it doesn't cost me anything.

If you are into hats, check out Fedoralounge.com, there is a lot of info there on all kinds of hats.

I have bought a bunch of stuff from them and have always been very satisfied. I love their hats.....but have yet to but any of those yet. I just cant bring myself to spend that much on a hat. I have some hats that are in the 200 dollar range that I really like but had to force myself to buy while on vacation....where you spend money easier.

I was in Virginia City last week and went to the Old Red Garter. Some great, authentic western wear. I ended up buying a simple, crushable flat brim had for $50 or so, so that I could spend more money on getting a nice paire of boots there.

I got my last Stetson at the Factory outlet in Garland, TX and that 4X cost less than $50 out the door. For anyone in the Dallas area, from the intersection of Forest and Shiloh roads in Garland, go past the Kraft plant on Forest, make sure it is on your right. Go past the Police station on your Left, and turn Right at the next stoplight. There is a gas station on the corner. About half to three fourths of a block up you will see the Stetson/Resistol factory and the Factory Outlet on your Right. Hats in there from $29 up to over $200, and the ones under $100 can be really nice.
