Old and unusual reloading equipment.

Post by Pitchy »

How about some pics of your old and rare reloading gear.
Here`s a old case tumbler, a early lyman sizer-luber, a 16 ga. shot shell loader, a Ideal 30-30 mold and a Ideal 32-40 all in one reloader.

"Old" being relative, and certainly not unusual... but the oldest piece of reloading equipment I have is this Lyman "Spartan" press:

I use it as my portable (range) unit with a Craftsman version of the WorkMate™ bench.

Griff, you can order the primer lever for it for only
about $20 from Lyman. Works pretty good.
I recently ordered one for my Spartan press and
it does both small and large primers. Very easy
to work.

Cool Griff, this blue one says Super B on it, more Lyman tools and a case length gage that i don`t know if they make any more.

Pitchy I really like that tumbler, had a rock tumbler that looked like it, I used with "rice shaped" walnut media. Cleaned cases real good inside and out. I on the prowl for another one.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Pitchy, do you have the rest of the 16 gauge tools to go with the roll crimping tool?

How about an old "Ideal Shot Shell Closer". It put a roll crimp, on paper shells, and dimple crimp, on brass.

Man - they sure must have had a lot of available time back then! A screw lock for each shell...

I STILL have a Thumbler's Tumbler, though not as old as that. I use it as a Ball Mill.

Pithy,
In the pic of the blue press, is that a home made c-clamp? Some things are so common and available, I wouldn't have though of making one, but good idea...

So you can make priming powder for flintlocks?

A ball mill usually uses hardened ball as the media that does the work of grinding/milling... They rotate similarly to the Thmblers Tumblers shown, but at variable RPMs depending on what material is being milled...Industry uses them to mill various ores...Chrome ore as an example...of course on the industrial scale the mills can be several feet in length and diameter and mill tons per day..
