Went by Cabelas on Saturday and danged if a new pistol didn't jump into my shopping basket. I couldn't throw it back, I was chosen to be it's new owner. Anyway, I picked up a Ruger New Vaquero stainless steel in .357 with the 4 5/8 barrel. It sure feels nice. I was also looking at the Uberti, which was cheaper, but also didn't look quite as nice. I realize the Uberti is a more accurate copy of the SAA, but but I'm not that much of a purist. I want a nice pistol that shoots well. I may have to get a matching pistol and do some cowboy action shooting. I realize that there wasn't stainless steel pistols then, but I can pretend its one of the nickel plated ones.
Anybody have any suggestions on where to get a nice western holster set for a reasonable price? I would even enjoy building my own if I could find a good kit or pattern. Any cowboy action shooting advice would be great too.

You need to define "reasonable price." What maybe be "reasonable" to some could be cost prohibitive to you....

The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

El Paso Saddlery, Cochise Leather, Triple K, Red Dog Leather are a few. Paul Combest of Red Dog (Reddog?) advertises on Ebay and has some great rigs for decent prices, including the most affordable of the quality "Spaghetti" (Eastwood) rigs around.
There are different style rigs out there to suit any taste from the extreme drop style Buscadero rigs made popular with the TV and movie westerns--that didn't really exist "back then" (certainly not in any number) but is largely a creation of Hollywood--to more utilitarian types. I don't CAS, but enjoy the stuff of the "Old west" whether fictionalized or not. I prefer the holsters of the higher-riding variety that loop over the gun belt directly...a bit more of a realistic "working cowboy" look. The Andy Anderson Spaghetti rig used by Eastwood all the way from half-way through Rawhide through his Spaghetti Westerns, Hang 'Em High and Two Mules For Sister Sara, is one of my favorite of this type that doesn't droop too far but is still "fast draw" oriented. In addition to Reddog, El Paso has a version of this rig as well. There are others out there making this style but many of those can get pretty spendy. The "John Wayne" rig is also made by just about everybody and also is the higher riding variety.(Non drop) as well.

Re: New Pistol
I will probably get banned but "Gun Shows" for starters. I picked up a nice looking simple holster this weekend at a gun show for $10, appears new and fits My Colt perfect. I saw several more even double rigs at reasonable prices. Shop around if You have patience.

I got a nice one from Vaquero Leather. Reasonably priced in my opinion.
