New Gun: Iver Johnson Target Sealed 8 .22

Post by FatJackDurham »

Was going to buy an old Savage single shot .22 today, but cool as it was, a fake revolver bums me out. Instead decided to buy a Iver Johnson Sealed Target 8 shot actual revolver. Cant wait to try it out.

My grandmother had one of those. Neat little pistols.

My only problem with them is I can't count past 6 without using both hands.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, break it open ..... aw stuff there's 2 left.
Close it.
Bang, bang, click, click, click ...... aw stuff, now I gotta reload.

Enjoy it, they are some nice shooters.

Why are they called "sealed"...?

AJMD,

I "think" it's because they have rebated chambers. But don't quote me on that. I haven't seen one in a very long time.

Mr. Miller has it right!

The front of the cylinder is rebated and seals off sparks, lead shavings, high velocity gases, etc. from traveling out of the barrel/cylinder gap without being deflected forward so as not to injure anyone next to you when firing it. They also have a somewhat unique front sight elevation adjustment.

I have not seen the Taurus revolving rifle yet, but, in this day of lawsuit happy people I suspect those cylinders have similar tool marks.

Traded the IJ back in. Too many FTFs, lots of lead flying everywhere but the target. Sigh. On the plus side, I did get the Savage 101, which will still make a nice companion for my Steven's Favorite. Plus, the Savage is 100% blue and the bore looks perfect. I pulled off on a logging
road on my way back to work from the gun store and plunked three rounds into a target I had.

Already love it.
