Rossi 92 .22?
Has anyone seen one? Or were they just a figment of an ad person's imagination? I enjoy shooting my three Rossi's and was looking forward to being able to shoot .22"s. My Henry works fine, but I wanted something a little heavier.

The best person to ask would be Nate Kiowa Jones. He is the most knowledgeable about the model 92 of anyone I have ever heard of. I hope he sees this post and answers.

Does Rossi still offer it, I went to their site and could not find it.

It's on their site, but listed in the 2011 catalog; don't see it in the 2012 one.Bis wrote:Does Rossi still offer it, I went to their site and could not find it.

Interesting though, the 'lever action' section shows "1 2 3 4 next" pages, but trying to go past page one gets me a blank screen...

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
Appears from Pete's post that they used to make it but can't find sight of it on their site or catalogs. Might have to check the shops and shows for the 22.
Not knowing how long ago the 32 H&R was heard of, if it was within 2-3 years then it could be in the pike. I heard that the Ranch Hand was shown at a SHOT show 2 or 3 years ago and they didn't flood the market 'til last year.

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
I too have been wondering, what happened to the Rossi 92-22 chatter? Taurus set a bad precedent three or four years ago--enticing with an online catalog listing for a .32 H&R Mag lever--teasing for 18 months before dropping it. Never saw production.

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
I was really hot to get one, but never happened. I think they cataloged it in anticipation of producing it, but never actually got INTO production as far as I can tell. Too bad.

I don't remember Rossi ever announcing a 32H&R. But, the Chiappa folks did but they fast learned the 92 action is too big to work with the small dia. 32 H&R brass. The shell guides would have to be set so close together the current eject setup would not pass through.
Rossi Taurus did announce a 22 and cataloged it in 2011. But, I bet they ran into the same problem. the ejector would have to be totally redesigned for it to work. Now that the new 2012 catalog is out sans the 22/92 I bet it never happens.
These pre-announcement aren't that unusual and most come to fruition. But, I think they do these pre-announcements to see what the interest is in the new product. This gives them a gage to see if the market will support the idea.
Does anyone remember the takedown 94 Winchester was going to remake?

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
the more i think about it, i believe rossi showed a lever gun mod of the pump action 22 [ like some have done ] and then showed this 32 on the same page of their website/catalog looking much the same. maybe it really wasn't going to be based on a 92 but just called such.
did they ever make the lever 22 based on the pump? as usual they showed pages of different finish and barrel length combinations.

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
Does that have anything to do with why Marlin left off the receiver loading-port on their .32 Mag leverguns...? (Are the cases so much different than .32-20...? If so, maybe Rossi should have made a .32-20 - the CAS crowd might love that!)Nate Kiowa Jones wrote:I don't remember Rossi ever announcing a 32H&R. Since Rossi is copying old (patent expired?) Winchester designs, couldn't they just copy the 94/22....?

I believe that someone here on this forum has the lever version of the Model 62 pump. I really wanted one of those but never saw one either.hfcable wrote:the more i think about it, i believe rossi showed a lever gun mod of the pump action 22 [ like some have done ] and then showed this 32 on the same page of their website/catalog looking much the same. maybe it really wasn't going to be based on a 92 but just called such.

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
In searching the archives of another forum I see that for the Taurus .32 Mag lever it was 2005--further back than I'd recalled--and one actually made it to the NRA show that year--the poster handled it. IIRC, yes, the .22 "62" and .32 Mag were virtually identical to one another and essentially lever "versions" of their respective pumps. Taurus advertised a carbine and long rifle at the time.
Re: Rossi 92 .22?
Any idea what those 62SA's are going for in good shape?

Wasn't Rossi. That was actually Taurus. Somewhere about 1997-1999 Rossi sold the M62 and M72 (22mag) pump rifles to Taurus. Taurus started making them but added the ugly safety on the bolt. They cataloged a 22 lever version but I've never actually seen one. I did hear about a 32 lever version but never saw it even cataloged. At the time I didn't think that 32 was going to fly because the 1890/62 action didn't seem strong enough unless the scaled it up some.

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
Although not exactly a model 92, the Henry lever action .22 makes a pretty good substitute in my opinion. Their youth model for example has dimensions (length of barrel, length of pull, etc.) that almost exactly match the Rossi Model 92 with the 16 inch barrel. The length of throw for the lever is also a good match. The Henry is, however, slightly lighter in weight.
My guess is that the full size Henry would probably be a close match to a full size model 92.

Re: Rossi 92 .22?
The Taurus .32 on the leverized 62 action is one I've never seen BUT... Winchester's original intent was to create both a lever action version of the 1890/1906/62 and to chamber it in .32... Neither of those came to fruition as they didn't see the demand. I think Tycer had a Taurus stainless lever .22 and I have seen them. They seem a bit odd but interesting. A .32 would have been really neat.

Hobie--yup, same gun Taurus was also "advertising" the .32 in for 18 months. Two lengths, the long gun and a carbine.

Well, if you get an M&H and I don't, I guess you will have been the smart one. Dittos on the Big Horn Armory Rifles although I am saving my money for that one.
