Man Card In Question...

Post by cshold »

Okay, I know 'a guy' who was a hardcore 24 addict, then the show ended.
He was devastated to say the least. Then a special 'lady' in his life convinced
him to watch one of the first episodes of Downton Abbey last year.
Well long story short he has become a total Abbey-Addict now.
Is he beyond the point of no return?

I don't really watch TV except that it's on when the wife is watching it while I read on the computer in the same room. My wife started watching it when she had her hip replaced earlier this year. I don't think there's a problem with watching it, it's not like your friend is watching "The View" or something.

Maybe your friend should read the Vince Flynn books.

Ahh, I've been accused of having an "Abby" thing. Then again, as a younger man, I had a Mary Ann thing so at least I do have wide range of taste.
Oh, wait, you're talking about that BBC soap that my wife has been watching. My mistake.

I switched addictions a couple of times. A good friend suggested I try workaholism for a change. I'm blessed with some clever butt kicking friends.

BBC is close to my Royalist upbringing. My favorite is MI5. That is some serious drama. The Abby thing is Peyton Place with accents!

Yep, MI5 was darned good. Not sure we ever got all of the episodes in the US, and at any rate, it didn't last near long enough. I have to admit, I have a thing for the British mystery series'. From Morse to Frost to Foyle and not to forget Peroit they are entertaining and just plain good fun.

i'm always amazed at the decisions that a man will make where women are concerned...i think your friend needs an intervention..he needs to go hunting for a month...no tv, no trailer, no generator, no cell-phone, no computer, out-side plumbing, just a wall-tent, kerosene lanterns, cooking on the fire, carrying an ancient Win.92 in 44-40, and eating what you kill... :)

I have a friend that loses his head every time a woman turns his. So bad that one "girlfriend" put more miles on his p/u in a month than he did in his "big truck" hauling freight! I've been married to the same woman for 41+ years... but I gotta say... some examples are sheer nuts! Actually, I mostly say, MOST examples belong in a looney bin! And yep, some guys simply ask "how high", when any woman sez, "jump!"

AS for the BBC, "Top Gear" is good programming... even if Graham is a tad over-the-top! But, he ain't all bad... he loved the ZR-1 Corvette, even if "it isn't really a very well-built car." You hafta love the raw, brute-force HP it makes! As he said... "Ferrari, take a note!"

Yep, Top Gear is pretty good. Back to America, have you tried watching Burn Notice? It is kind of funny and there are lots of shoot-em-up or blow-em-up episodes. Plus, the English actress who plays the girlfriend is hilarious as a wild eyed former IRA bomber and sniper. Bruce Campbell gets to be his usual droll self and have fun.

has put ya’ll on the map in this country.

I’ve taken notice that every time there’s an outdoor scene, you
can hear pheasants cackling in the background. Very cool 8)

Revoked. Revoked for fiddling while Rome burns. Off with his head.

Perhaps if he is like you and can make fire with flint and steel and has 6 months of food and water and a go bag and multiple ways out of town and a place to meet-up with family if disaster strike then PERHAPS he can get a pass for one useless, mind-numbing TV show ONCE a week. Perhaps.

No. Revoked.

Don't let this get around, but I like those Masterpiece Theatre productions of England in the 1800's and if I hear anyone snickering, I'll bust his chops.

Days of our Lives and Life Time TV for Women movies - but I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

A German Dr - Karen Weatherby - deteremined that watching women use cell phones will extend you life.

Well - if you don't let your wife see you doing it. - she will wonder why you care what the other woman is saying.

She may also want you to stay away from painted ladies - and - this woman is only wearing paint.

Doctor Who (Christopher Eccleston was best), Keeping Up Appearances, My Hero, The Vicar of Dibly, Father Ted, Are You Being Served, Top Gear, the Brother Cadfael Mysteries(when they were being shown), Coupling, Mr. Bean, The Thin Blue Line, Blackadder, and As Time Goes By are all good shows. We see some of your shows here and there are some good ones, which is much like American TV. There are some good ones.

A popular little ditty from the 1920's

Love, love, love, love,
Look what you've done to me!
The things I never missed,
Are things I can't resist!

Oh, love, love, love, love,
Isn't it plain to see,
I just had a change of heart,
What can it be?

She's got eyes of blue,
I never cared for eyes of blue,
But she's got eyes of blue,
And that's my weakness now!

She's got curly hair,
I never cared for curly hair,
But she's got curly hair,
And that's my weakness now!

Oh, my! Oh, me!
Oh, I should be good, I would be good,
But, gee!

She likes to bill and coo,
And I never cared to bill and coo,
But she likes to bill and coo,
So that's my weakness now!

She likes a saxophone,
I never cared for a saxophone,
But she likes a saxophone,
And that's my weakness now!

She likes those rainy days,
And I never cared for a rainy day,
But she likes a rainy day,
And that's my weakness now!

Oh, let it rain, let it pour,
'Cause I think she knows just what it's rainin' for!

She likes a long good-night,
And I never had a long good-night,
But she likes a long good-night,
So that's my weakness now!

And she likes boop-boop-a-doop,
And I never cared for boop-boop-a-doop
But she likes a boop-boop-a-doop,
So, that's my weakness now!

And s he likes butt'n dutt'n da-da-da,
I never cared for butt'n dutt'n da-da-da,
But she likes but-dut-da-da,
So, that's my weakness now!

What's more, what's more,
Oh, I think she knows what but-dut-da is for!

And she likes boop-boop-a-doop,
I never cared for a boop-boop-a-doop
But she likes to boop-boop-a-doop,
That's my weakness now!

Ooh, that's my weakness now

I do like the english products on Masterpiece Theater as well as many english movies. They always seem to find actors who really look the part. In the U.S. it seems our movie makers only want beautiful people or sterotypes for looks. I do like Downton Abbey as well. Sure would not have liked to live that life however. Class status was a big thing. ATB

Been hooked on British TV since I watched Monty Python reruns as a kid.

Black Adder, Mr. Bean, Dr. Who and Top Gear also figure in there.

Can't say you're going to lose a man card for watching any show, but you might want to clean a gun while you watch, just in case.
