Work - specifically the new job - heck, doing both the old and new job - is simply kicking my rump. Not that I am complaining; I'm happy to have the job when so many don't, and I am thrilled at the promotion and new opportunity. Still, its been everything I can do to keep my head above water, and it drives me nuts not doing either job well. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though, as my replacement in the old job has been named and will be starting next week. It will be a hectic 6 weeks doing turnover calls, so I will probably be around even less, but it is an investment in the future.

I got the lowest paycheck in my office last month (negative $645 or some such nonsense); since many of my same-age high school buddies have union jobs in the various local factories, they are always astounded this time of year when they're spending their year-end bonuses, or basking in time-and-a-half for holiday or overtime work, and I say I can't do such-and-such because despite working 65-hour weeks I'll have to coast a couple months without pay. Yeah, it sucks, and my opinion of the health-insurance/government-bureaucrat cartel gets lower each year - but, I do have a job...! (Besides, the powers that have given them so much better income stability and security are the same powers causing their jobs to move overseas, so they are often on slippery ground than they realize.) Anyway, those of us who have jobs have alot to be thankful for, whatever the pay or hours or stress involved...

Just try to keep it all in perspective, I guess - if you have good health and a loving family, and live in a (relatively) free country, life is GOOD...
