can my XTR be tightened up?
I have a Winchester 94 big bore and though it is a very handsome rifle the lever seems loose. If I don't keep my hand on the lever when carrying it the darn thing rattles as bad as a Benelli pump. All of the screws are tight it just seems sloppy compared to all of my other lever guns. The gripping surface on the hammer is really smooth too. When lowering the hammer from full cocked position it will slip out from under your thumb if you aren't carefull. With cowboy action shooting being as popular as it is I was wondering if anyone offer any aftermarket parts that would make my rifle more user friendly.

Short answer, no. The Winchester 94 is only ahead of the Henry "Big Boy' in terms of popularity in CAS circles. Outside of sights there isn't anything to improve it's operation. It can be slicked up... and you might try shimming the lever where it passes thru the link... but remember, it needs a certain amount of play to operate correctly... too tight and it will bind as it slides over the pin in the link. Check out this site and the tips provided by Tycer and Mohave Gambler Marauder's Rifle Tips.

Towards the end of production Winchester put a small wave washer between the lever and the link at the pin to help with that. You get them from Browning Winchester parts.
Part # U347150320 Finger Lever / Link Washer.
The last price I had was $1.00.
