Suggestions on where to purchases a baby sharps 38-55

Post by O.S.O.K. »

At the best price? I'm looking for the Taylor's I guess. The Lyman is priced higher and has the tang sight which I don't want. I've got some Christmas money, winnings from fantasy football (not sure how that happened!) and I sold my Ruger MkII 338 Win, so I've got the cash....

Never mind... I decided to just satiate my gun lust with one of these:

Image

1/4 the price of the little sharps... which I may still get at some later date. I like older Smith's and this has been calling to me.

I also ordered a nice El Paso Saddlery holster for it - which will also work with a couple of my other revolvers.

This leaves me with some cash to apply to some other things that I need...

"Older"? Is that an M&P, mdl 10 or mdl 13?

Oh, sorry - these are LEO trade-ins. Model 10. Bud's has these and the square butt version at the same price -$269 shipped. Your basic KISS handgun.

Here's the M64 (stainless model 10) with some Eagle grips that I put on it - will fit the same holster.

The other revolver that will fit in the holster that I have is one of the first I bought - a Taurus M66 .357 Mag.

The holster that I ordered will look like the one on the right - basketweave and all:

What's not to like about K Frame Smiths?

This is my Model 15, former Fort Worth PD issue.

Well I might just as well include my S&W 3 inch 65, with it's companion Rossi .357, like the old K frames too.

Nice Model 10! These old girls have class and functionality all rolled into one package! Fixed sight K frame Smiths are one of my many weaknesses...I have a 4" Model 10 skinny barrel round butt version that I carried as a duty weapon in the mid 1980's. It is still the most accurate handgun I own. I'm curious - what types of .38 ammo are you contemplating using in it? I still have practice SWC and 158 LHP duty rounds left over from the old revolver days at work. Lord help me if I find one like yours locally at a decent price....I'll be poorer in money but richer in spirit!

I really like my Kieth swc Lyman boolits - plain based hard cast -about 170 grains. That over enough propellant to give 900 fps or so is what I intend to work on. The M10's are very strong guns and can easily digest +P loads with no il effects.

That skinny barrel 64 brings back memories. My agency had four of those and were desired by the administrative types due to their lighter weight. All of our revolvers were traded for Glock 17 pistols in 1989. Wish we could have bought them!

Seems kind of weird to me that they are just now being released as trade-ins.... what agency kept these so long? Surely every agency out there converted to semi autos long ago?

I've purchased a couple other LEO trade-ins recently - Sig P220, S&W 4586 and mini-14 GB - those all make sense as second or even third phase service weapons... but a M10 Smith?

It is indeed the Combat Masterpiece. Bill Jordan helped develop the Model 19 Combat Magnum, still a K frame but 357 instead of 38.

I wonder if the Model 10s may have been used by some security company; gate guard or night watchman sort of work where the firearm was more a part of the uniform than actually considered a defensive or offensive tool.

As for LEO trade-ins; Wideners is advertising Sig P6 (Police version of P225 single stack 9mm) with 2 mags and holster for $399. Condition is said to be excellent condition. I know there are some who really dislike Sigs, and have personal experience to substantiate their dislike, but I think these P6s are a heck of a deal. Mine has become one of my favorite semi-auto 9mm shooters.

I bought one of those - but for much less - $279 IIRC a couple years ago as a gift for a buddy - shot it for the first time a few months ago - very nice! Felt great in the hand and was super accurate - reminded me of my P220.

Is a German police trade in :)

Since the mags are hard to find and expensive, you can deduct that from the total cost and if in Excellent condition, I'd say that's still a very good buy. The one I bought had one mag and was in Very Good condition but did exhibit some wear marks - though nothing big. It was tight and the bore was pristine.
