POLITICS - NRA Elections

Post by Hobie »

David T. Hardy has his thoughts on the subject. Anyone here with any suggestions/comments?

For all the political talk hasn't anyone got any pro or con comments on any of the NRA board nominees?
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hobie -

I appreciate the post and the recommendation the linked article makes. I tend to read their bios, then vote for those I am familiar with first, followed by those with military and/or LEO experience. Just my preference - which is funny, as someday I hope to run for the NRA board, and I have neither!

I'd sure like to have as much info about them as we get about Presidential candidates. They seem to be as important, if not more so.

I'm sort of surprised that I don't see active campaigning of a sort. Last year Jim Supica simply posted on the S&W (and perhaps other places) simply asking for support.

YK, I'm not so sure about selecting somebody just because they are former military or police. I've met some such NRA members who lean towards "reasonable" controls more than I like especially for an NRA board member and again, I don't know all these folks.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I think I might not be able to vote because I let my membership lapse for about a year & then reupped. I intend to make a call & see if anything can be done. Been a member since forever.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up Hobbie.

I'm still trying to find bios on the full slate...

But I'm inclined to vote them ALL out.

I just wish I knew who would agitate to get rid of the Vichy.

Thanks for the headsup Hobie. I will be going through the website, and reading opinions here. I do the best I can but I am not well informed yet about who to vote for. Perhaps you can retitle your thread NRA Elections/Hot Lookin' Chicks! to get more action?

Chris,

A couple of the women ARE good looking... How about this Steve Schreiner? Or you could write me, Old Ironsights, JimT in...

BTW, I'm trying to find a list of current board members to which I can link but have been unsuccessful.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I'll throw my hat into that ring - write me in! :D

Hobie, I just meant that, barring any other information, I go with the odds. I respect the service of everyone who has served (though don't agree with them all - some take the oddest stances), and figure the odds are better that they understand reality!

I just voted.

Steve Schreiner - he has the recommendation of several other people I respect.
Tom Selleck - we need a public persona that is attractive to other than our base.
James S. Gilmore III - former Governor of VA, he did a lot for this state's gun rights while here, has kept his word and has the ear of the nation's leaders (at least they know his name!).
Roy Innis - he's been on the side of right for a long time despite the fact that he's caught a lot of flack for it. Like me, he sees gun rights as the key to all rights.
Jim Taylor, Paco Kelly and John Taffin - I think these gentlemen would do a fine job if elected. I think they have the will to speak their minds and the ability to get along with other board members so that they can be effective. I acknowledge that unless there is a groundswell of support for them it is unlikely they'll be elected. However, if enough folks vote for them it might catch the eye of somebody who might actually recognize that there is a bit of dissatisfaction with the current drift of the organization.

I did not write in myself because unless a LOT of folks write me in I'll just be some crank nobody knows. I also didn't vote for anyone else because I want them to see that some people took the time to consider their vote and didn't find all the nominees (however good they might be) worthy of a rubber stamp.

Thanks to those who carefully considered this vote.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Thank you for that. I'd like to see if we can catch their attention.

Most folks are told they can't vote for more than 26 and so vote for 26 (give or take a bit as one tends to lose count voting for that many on one ballot). Over a field of 33 it is likely that there will not be a great difference in the number of votes that one receives over another. By limiting our votes to only 6-10 we not only vote for those we feel are MOST qualified (consistent with our views) but also deny votes to those of whom we have a lesser opinion or do not know. If enough people do this it might affect board decisions. I know from personal experience on a board of trustees that the organization can lose direction when lacking input from members.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I've been guilty of using all my votes before - and won't again. Again, I like your strategy!!! :D

Hobie,
I think Paco and company will make excellent board members.
What do we put down for their city and state?
Hate to have them not counted on a technicality :)
Thanks
