Must-have books on Single Actions?

Post by Triggernosis »

What are some must-have books on the single action revolver? I've got my first single action in-bound to my FFL (Cimarron Model P Jr. in .38 Spec.) and want to learn all there is to know about how to operate it, shoot it, and enjoy it.

Triggernosis,

I agree with Shrapnel's suggestions and will add; Sixguns by Keith for a vintage and historical viewpoint and toss in any you can find by Skeeter Skelton as well.

Single actions are very simple machines, there is no rocket science involved with them. You can master their concept in about an hour if you try hard enough.
But it takes a lot of actual range time to master shooting them. They do have their peculiarities.

I like your choice too.

One of my favorties is "Home Gunsmithing of the Colt S.A.A. Revolver" by Loren Smith

I really like Jerry Kuhnhausen's The Colt Single Action Revolvers, A Shop Manual, Volumes 1 & 2. Both volumes are in one binding and he covers most of the clones too.

That's one book I need to get. I've already got the Ruger book, the Colt book would make it a book end set.

I was going to suggest that book, but you beat me to it.

I'll have to check that one out.

Shrapnel, I've got both of them and your pardner MLV was supposed to sign'em, but didn't. I think I'll ask for a refund. :D On a more serious note, they are good books for the SAA and others.

Not SA specific, but since one of Skeeter Skelton's books is pictured...

The Bowen book is excellent as are both the Venturino books and Kuhnhausen Manual. Also good if you can find them are; Colt Peacemaker Encyclopedia, Colt's SAA Post War Models, Colt Single Action Handbook, and Colt Peacemaker Collector.
