22 Conversion Specialist Ciener Arrested on Fraud Charges

Post by Hagler »

Gents & ladies,

I just got this in an Auction Arms Newsletter, and I thought that you may want to read the story:

I have not used his products, but I know that many people have. Here is the direct link to the original story:

"Thursday, November 3, 2011
Brevard County Sheriff's Office Raids Gun Conversion Manufacturer
First reported on BrevardTimes.com, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office raided a Cape Canaveral business located at 8700 Commerce Street at around 6:00 p.m. today.

Public records show that the business located at this address is that of Jonathan Arthur Ciener, Inc., a company that advertises gun conversion kits on www.22lrconversions.com.

On the Web, there appear to be several consumer complaints about www.22lrconversions.com.

Jonathan Arthur Ciener was arrested and charged with schemes to defraud less than $20,000, which is a third degree felony.

I have one of his kits for a 1911, which works fine with the right
ammunition. I bought mine thru Midway, partly because I'd heard
about his customer service shenanigans.

I hope they nail his hide to the barn door. He cashed the checks
quickly enough, but he clearly has no intention of delivering
the goods for one reason or another. As postal money orders and
the USPS is involved, I'd like to see him tagged for mail fraud as
well.

Most vendors in the firearms business go out of their way to
provide really terrific customer service. Midway, Henry, Dillon,
and Skinner Sights are only some of the companies with
excellent (or better!!) customer service. Ciener is the exception
that proves the rule, eh?

I was warned long ago not to deal with Ceiner. He's operated his business this way for many years. It's nice to see that it will finally be catching up to him. Did you catch the part where if you complain about him, you will be put to the bottom of the list for your merchandise? Why do these people always seem to operate out of my state?

I've never heard anything good about the guy. I hope he gets what he has coming.

I don't mind if reasonable tort and contract law is enforced against anyone, but when it is a 'gun business', particularly one dealing with politically-incorrect things like 'conversions', I just hope it wasn't prompted by some ATF witch-hunt... :|

He advertises:
Our conversions are the ONLY ones available with
magazine capacity over 10 rounds...!!!
and you just know that has to 'irritate' the 'authorities'...

If he done people wrong with the intent to do so he needs to get his comeuppance.

I do hate to see things like this happen within the firearm industry because they get looked at with a jaudiced eye to begin with. Don't need to get anyone a helping hand.

When I found this and posted on my blog I did some internet searches on the subject of Mr. Ciener. Quite a shock to me. It does not appear to be a "witch hunt" but the legit pursuit of a person who has an unsavory business model.

I know a farmer like this. He doesn't pay bills unless you walk up to him and demand payment. He's a big guy and counts on people being intimidated to avoid satisfying his debts. Everyone knows he's a crook and almost none of them will deal with him a second time. That's a heck of a person to be, isn't it?
Sincerely,

Hobie

If he's guilty and run out of town/business, hopefully someone ethical and honest will fill the niche.

Wow.

I've been tempted several times to order a .22 conversion for my 1911 and Glock.

Really glad i didn't! Been seeing his ads in Shotgun News forever.

I also hang out at the stickbow forum. You should read some of the stories about Bowyers taking money and never delivering.
