New 1873 arrived today.....Thought I'd have a heart attack!!

Post by rbertalotto »

I ordered a Uberti Special Sporting rifle, 1873, octagon, 20", pistol grip, 45LC.......

It was ordered through Gun Broker through a very nice place out in South Dakota, Kones Korner......Charlie Carter took very good care of the whole deal. No issues there......

So the box is delivered to my friends Gun Shop. When I arrive to see it, it is one mass of soaking wet cardboard!

We took the outer box off. Or I should say, it fell off. And here is what the inner box looked like:

And it too was soaking wet!

But thank God the rifle was in a plastic bag and was in perfect condition:

Can't wait to get out and shoot it!

Wow! Think I would have passed out seeing that box. Glad to see the rifle survived the ordeal unscathed.

I have been pretty lucky so far with everything being in tact.....I would have prob. crapped a brick when I seen that. I would still be a little aggravated since I like to keep my boxes usually when I can.

The rifle is beautiful though.

I agree with you on keeping the boxes for future "add value" to the sale.

Maybe I can get another one from Uberti...........

Uberti 73`s are great guns. I have two, both 24" straight grip rifles. One in .45 Colt and one in .32-20. The .32-20 is a SUPER accurate little rifle. The .45 is good enough but not bragging accurate by any stretch. Both function as slick as a dream.

+1 on both counts. I'd let the seller/shipper know how lucky he got. He should read the shipping company the riot act!

Whew, scary moment, glad the rifle was in good condition. I hate it when the shipper handles a package like that.

Yes ups. I hope I didn't make a mistake In getting a 20 inch barrel. Well just another reason to buy another one!
I haven't tried it yet but I hope it will hold 10 cartridges.

Who was the shipper?

Was it shipped in the box as shown or was the box and gun in another container

Thanks

I'm glad you dodged a bullet, Roy - That's exactly why I specify USPS when I buy something & NEVER use UPS when shipping.

I learned my lesson several years ago, when a riffle arrived via UPS from Alaska, with a box with an end like yours. it looked like they stood it on end in a puddle while loading or something similar.

I wasn't so lucky as you, though - the crescent BP had blown through the somewhat so-so packaging & wet box, chipping off sope stock finish on either side of the toe of the BP - and I wasn't the one with the insurance !

I love my 24" standard rifle but I would like a 20" short rifle one of these days. Mine are chambered in .44 WCF though.

Beautiful rifle!

Last rifle I had shipped to me came in the manufacturer's box, plus a shipping carton. Via UPS, not a dent in the carton other'n what you'd expect from normal handling. That might be more of a problem based on the actual shipper, not the "carrier". Just like Uberti has an 800lb gorilla to tighten that side cover screw... UPS has one in their package handling dep't... and treats ALL packages the same.

While the 20", obviously  doesn't hold as many as a 24", I think you'll find you're gonna be happy with it. Might just whet your appetite for the 24" tho'! :P :P :P

My next 1873 is gonna be the "Border Rifle"; just like yours, except has a ½ round/octagon/barrel.

Congrats on your new rifle... a beauty, for sure!
