MOVIES - New "Western"
Well...sorta. It involves horses and lever guns and robbers and steam trains etc., but it takes place in Bolivia in the 1920s! It's a Spanish production shot almost entirely on location in Bolivia and it's about yep, you guessed it: Butch Cassidy. Called "Blackthorn". Out in pay-per-view now, in theaters in the U.S. in October (may have been already released in Oz and the UK). Here's the site and a trailer:

The wife and I watched it tonight and I must say that it's a film that begs to be seen on the silver screen. It was enjoyable, a bit slow, but really had some awesome cinematography that cries out for a big look. If it comes to a theater near you check it out!
Best,
Oly

Definately looks like a movie that I will be seeing soon (hopefully)! Thanks for the heads up!
Gun Control is not about guns, it is about control!
Re: MOVIES - New "Western"
I saw it a few days ago. Like you said, a bit slow at times but the scenery and acting carried it forward nicely. I'd go see it again in the theater.

It's available on Comcast cable pay-per-view. And by golly, I just checked and it's available on iTunes and at Amazon.com for rental download as well (in HD no less). For anyone who has a large screen for their computer, those HD downloads at Amazon or iTunes look just great!Rube Burrows wrote:

It's not available to buy yet - just rent because it has not yet hit theaters in the U.S. This is sort of a new way of delivering movies that is somewhat controversial (the owners of theater chains hate it). The movie studios get to keep far more of the purchase price, but they also only get one buy as opposed to multiple tickets if you and your family go. And as I said, if this movie will be coming near you it's definitely one worth seeing on the silver screen because of the wonderful cinematography.
Best,

Re: MOVIES - New "Western"
It's on Netflix now. It had great scenery and a pretty good story. Sam Shepard did his part well as he always does; but yes - it was a bit draggy. I kinda liked it, although it was not "Quigley Down Under." My wife didn't mind; she just went to sleep!
Re: MOVIES - New "Western"
I just watched the movie this weekend and enjoyed it as well.
The movie is available for rental at RED BOX.

Re: MOVIES - New "Western"
I too saw the movie this past weekend with (adult) family and all really enjoyed it. Don't have streaming rental so bought it as a Christmas present to ourselves (so had better liked it!). +1 good job by Sam Shepard,...and we noticed some of the same film techniques used in "Butch Cassidy..." --such as the close ups of the galloping horses as well as long distance/telephoto shots of the pursuers--which helped tie the stories together nicely without being heavy handed about it.

Re: MOVIES - New "Western"
Overall it was OK. I didn't like Sams singing. The landscapes were great! The costumes and sets done well. No unbelievable gunplay. It just never took off or took me anywhere. I have spent much worse 2 hours!
