bout 1500 times so its slicked up good, i shoot 98% cast bullets cus of the cost factor, rossi doesnt warnaty the wood, some day i may do
something bout that, but for now i just shoot the heck outta her

Re: Rossi 92 24" Octagon Barrel
I have the 20" octagon barrelled Rossi 92. Great little carbine, but since I only use it for CAS (cowboy action shooting), I can't say whether it's really accurate in the traditional sense... It'll put 10 rounds on an 8" plate at about 35 yards, standing off-hand. Which is probably as accurate as I am, standing off-hand.
One thing I've learned tho', is that no two rifles should be judged accuracy wise as anything but individuals. But, with a little tweeking and fine-tuning, any that I've owned has been able to see some improvement is initially found to be "bad."

Re: Rossi 92 24" Octagon Barrel
I have my grandfather's .32-20 Marlin that from what I understand was quite accurate in his hands. Unfortunately it sat in an attic for 50 years or so, and the barrel is pitted.
So. . . when I spied a Rossi .357 Mag 24" Octagonal, I got to thinking that with the right loads, it could be MY generation's equivalent, and I put a tang sight on it, and so far it's been reliable (feeds .357's of all sorts, .38 specials of all sorts, so far), and accurate (2 MOA easily; since I've not scoped it and can't see better than that, I don't know its full potential).
The ONLY reason I'd not want one was if I really wanted to scope it, in which case I'd get a Marlin. Even then, a 'scout' scope might do just fine on the Rossi.

I have both a Rossi 20" carbine and 24" oct bbl rifle in 357mag and I love them, however, I do prefer the 24" rifle. You're right, it balances on the shoulder really well. Accuracy in 357mag is excellent and I can shoot 10-12" steel plates at 175yds with ease (if I'm having a good day) as I added both a tang rear and globe front sight. However, the ones chambered in 45colt really need a slug barrel job so you can be sure and get the correct size bullet. Many seem to like lead bullets larger than .452". A number of people have one's that like .454" bullets so you have to check to know what size barrel you actually have.
The actions can be slicked up via Steve's Gunz DVD and parts kit. I've done 3 (my 2 and a neighbor's) and its easy to do if you enjoy fixing things. Check his site out. He also sells guns already slicked up and he may have one you're interested in so I'd give him a call or send an email. He's a regular here, going by the name of 'Nate Kiowa Johnes' (his CASS name).

Thanks guys. I was interested in what you all think about the quality and function. You guys made up my mind. I am going to look at a 357 Rossi 92 tomorrow. The price is a little higher then the 45LC I looked at today but it is a caliber I allready have. I like the 45 but that woul be a extra expence. I will post pics when I get one. If anyone is interested in the 45LC I saw today. Dunham's sports opened a new store in Meadville Pa and they are selling that model for $460. 24"octagon berrel.
