Winchester 96 Trails End Octagonal 44 magnum

Post by DennisE »

I've had a number of Marlins but this is my first Winchester. I paid $650 for it and it is supposed to be, and looks, unfired. Did I do good on the price? Is this a decent shooter with 44 magnums? with 44 specials? Anybody got one? Do you like it? I'll shoot some 44 specials tomorrow and 44 magnums on Friday. Thanks, Dennis

Dennis,

Question; was $650.00 a good price?
Answer; if you are satisfied with the rifle, yes. It's only money you would have spent it on something else.

Question; is it a good shooter with .44 Mags, 44 specials?
Answer; who knows, all guns are individuals. It may shoot great with every thing you shoot through it, might be finicky as a blond California girl.

Question; anybody got one, like it?
Answer; nope, they only let one slip out and you got it. You'll have to tell us.
Just kidding. I'm sure there must be at least one forum member somewhere that has one. Not me though. Mine woulda been chambered for .45 Colt

On the serious side, only you can answer those questions. But if the trigger pull and action is good, I'm sure it will shoot better than you can.

if this is the trails end with the cresent butt plate...case colored receiver
and octogon barrel...you did real good on the price...

if it the trails end with shotgun butt plate, all blue, round 20" barrel
I have seen them for around 700 to 750 on gunbroker....
auction site prices are sometimes a bit high....
So its about right....

I dont have a "trails end"....but I do have a 44 mag 94AE SRC with
Chemical Case colored receiver checkered furniture, Large loop and sling studs......
and I love it....fun to shoot. I shoot 44mags loaded down to a 44 special..
and hot rounds too! It likes some loads better than others.....
and yours will too...

I paid 610 for mine...and before winchester closed its doors in conneticut...

My 94 trails end (44 mag) shoots ok but wants to lead up. My wife bought it for me several years ago and I just have not had the time to wring out the bugs yet.
when your enemy is within range so are you
