OT-Ruger is a top-notch company

Post by Winjester »

I have been away from the forum for awhile due to the death of my father. I want to thank again all of you who sent prayers my way.
I had trouble removing the nipples from a Ruger Old Army revolver prior to my leaving for Northern Minnesota. I had tried soaking the cylinder in Kroil for a week, heating the nipples and plunging the cylinder in Kroil, soaking it in a cocktail of Kroil, CLP, and WD-40. I finally drilled them out as large as I could without damaging the threads, and I was successful in removing 4 of them. The 5th one wouldn't budge, and I broke the extractor off in the 6th one. I felt sick when I heard the extractor snap, because I knew I could never get it out. I have been drilling and extracting threaded pieces most all of my 64 years on this good earth, but I never dreamed that they were so frozen. Being a hard-headed German probably contributed to my not sending the cylinder back to Ruger in the 1st place. I sent it back with a note describing my ordeal, and asked them if they could help at this point.
I got back to town Saturday night, 9Feb., and today UPS delivered my ROA cylinder with all new nipples installed, and re-blued. Sturm, Ruger, & Co. did this all at no charge, and even paid the return shipping! I have always admired Ruger for the quality firearms they produce, and now I know they are a 1st class outfit who will see alot more of my business.
God bless them and you all!

P.S.- Kroil didn't seem to work very good.

Thanks for the heads up Winjester and condolences again on your Dad. I've always thought of Ruger as a class act also and try to support them when I can(have procured 9 Rugers so far and have loved each one) and may have to rub my nickels together for their new Mini-14.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Sorry to hear about your dad!!! I have sent guns to Ruger to be repaired several times. They always repaired them, reblued them, and there was never a charge. Ruger is a class act. Art
