Het Guys,
How does the Hornady leverevolution 357's work on deer compared to a 180 hardcast traditional 357 bullet on deer?
Is the Hornady any good?
Thanks,
Geoff

Re: Hornady leverevolution
Have not tried those but what I have tried has been accurate.
Re: Hornady leverevolution
I've shot the Leverevolution in the 30-30 , 35 REM , 308 Marlin Express , 338 Marlin Express , 444 , 450 and 45-70 . And they all shot very well on paper !
I've killed deer with the 30-30 , 308 Marlin Express , 35 REM and 450 Marlin . All one shot kills and none went further then 30 yards after the shot with a good many being DRT !

Thanks Guys,
I guess I will stick to the hardcast bullets. I assume the lack of comments either means hardcasts are the way to go or no one has tried them.
Thanks,
Geoff

Re: Hornady leverevolution
I guess I am the only one who is not impressed with the Lever revolution rounds.I have tried them in 45/70,30-30 and .44 magnum and I prefer my hard cast bullet reloads.I haven't used the Hornady loads in a hunting situation so I cannot comment on their performance in that aspect.

I have not used either but have considered especially for my.30-30 and .45-70--though the pistol-lever round application sounds intriguing as well. My question would be for those stating better results from more traditional construction--from a physics point of view, wouldn't there *have* to be an improvement in basic "initial" ballistics--range, velocity, over any blunt-nosed round? I am assuming this would be Hornady's argument and marketing strategy to begin with. What am I missing here?
Re: Hornady leverevolution
From a purely drag point of view they hold their velocity better down range for sure, but the problem I have with them in the loadings I've tried (.45 Colt, .357 mag) is that they're loaded to standard pressure (it feels like the light side of standard) and they're not heavy bullets in those loads either. Some of their other loadings look impressive to me, but those are all that I've tried.
The .45 Colt selection makes a nice personal protection round IMO because it's not so hot that it feels like you're blazing away with a daggum .44 mag but the bullet is supposed to penetrate and expand nicely at the velocities you get from a pistol.
Best,
Oly
