On my Marlin 1894C with an 'adjustable semi-buckhorn folding rear sight' I've added a Williams and while gettin' it dialed in, the folding rear sight likes to go upright after recoil.
Yea, funny, funny! But just a little erratating too.
So, what are ways to safely remove the rear sight without damage or mark? I'm thinking a fixture to hold the rifle and a punch?? What have others done or recommend??
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” — 1 Corinthians 2:9
First: removed the elevator and put a piece of cardboard or leather under the sight. Keeps the barrel from getting scarfed up.
Second: lay the rifle on it's right side and carefully tap the rear sight from left to right as seen if you had it to your shoulder. I use a brass drift punch. "Generally" they are not tight enough to need a vise to hole the rifle. Be careful you don't slip and hit the forearm as you drive the sight out.
That's about it really.
If the sight is so tight it don't budge that way then a padded vise might be needed. Don't usually happen that way though.
