tale of 2 guns

Post by ollogger »

went to wis. a few weeks ago for some family doings. my dad is 82 now & has some health issues & said he wont be huntn any more. i asked him about some brass that he had for his 375 win. thinking i could use them for my 38-55 he said he had some & said give me a minute & soon returned with brass & 2 full boxes of amo, i said dad i cant use the full ones, he said you need the gun to go with them & handed the 94 to me & said its yours.well right then a dang bug flew in my eye, so that took 5 mins. to clear up & then i was able to say thanks dad i love you then the dang bug crawled down my throat. the next day i was at my uncle marks for a visit & he brought out a 88 win. in 308 thats fired 6 rounds in 40 yrs & gave it to me, well that time it was a swarm of bugs on the attack. i dont have the right words for this maybe, but to recive them gifts from live loved ones was more than emotional. i know you want pix. but can some one tell me how to do it & explain slooowy ollogger

ollogger,

Yeah, sure we'd like pics but no hurry.
The greatest tribute you can give your father and uncle is to go hunting with each rifle and bring home the meat. And give each of them some.

A good, heartfelt story. Thanks for sharing with us. But it sounds like you might need some DEET for all those swarming bugs  .

Sehr Gut! Dern bugs anyways... always at the most inappropriate times... but nearly unavoidable.

Go up and find the "one sticky" post for the best explanation on postin' pictures.

A very cool deed by your folks, but...........sadly, its just a reminder that we are just temporary custodians of these guns.

Great to have guns like that in the family and equally great you are the kind of person a man would give his gun to.

Your a lucky son of a gun...should have took them out and let them have one last shot with them for old times sake and see how good they still are .. such as in a little shooting match. and to have some last moment memories.

"sadly, its just a reminder that we are just temporary custodians of these guns. I often wonder about the hands that used to fondle my shootin' irons. ---------Sixgun"
- That there is the reason I have a detailed list of all my guns that are in the cabinet with where/how they were aquired, what had been done to them, previous stories from former owners of them and what I have done to them and with them. That way the next caregivers of the irons will have an idea what they have and history. And if they don't have any respect for that info, then its their problem.
Ollogger, You have two nice guns there, and you will cherish them I can tell.

Six rounds in forty years . . . I'd say she's 'bout plumb wore out.

Very nice. I read once that a man is as rich as he has friends. I can tell you ain't poor.
