At one time or another I've shot, borrowed, or owned...
- ...two different takes on the .45-70 levergun...
...two different styles of .35 Remington...
...several Octagonals of different makes and vintages...
...but I still think my favorites (still have all three of these ) are the .44 Magnums...

Re: lever pics
Well I've owned a rifle for every lever cartridge Marlin ever chambered a production run lever rifle for except the 45-90 . And I have since refined my accumulation down to a horde of 444's and a single 45-70 . And while none of the 25 Marlin's I own now were made nefore 1964 two of them have gained a special place with me at the moment !
Now Marlin has always said the "original" Model 444 was in production from 1965 to 1971 . Well I happen to have a pair that don't quite fall in there !
The first I'll mention seriel numbers to 1964 and has the following rollstamped on the barrel "Mod. 336-444 MAGNUM" . That leads me to believe this was a pre production model but thats all an educated guesse on my part .I got that one this past January while I was in the Philippines off an auction on Gunbroker . The rifle also came with a Marlin marked scope and a set of bases and rings that Marlin used to give you the option of ordering with their rifles in the 60's and 70's . This one is now sighted in with the Saeco #432 bullet which is a 265 grain GC FP bullet pushed with 53 grains of H322 .
The second rifle is also a Marlin in 444 (imagine that) and it's in the same style ! However this one was made in 1972 going by the seriel number and it's also rolstamped "444T" on the barrel .I got this one on Gunbroker or Auction Arms sometime last summer . I have a nice old Weaver V8 scope on this one and it's loaded with the BRP/RD 432-375GC and 45 grains of H322 .
While these two are nothing to get overly excited about they've kinda grown on me ! They're hardly worth any astronomical amount either . But I'm pleased none the less
There may be a third rifle coming into this elite group (LOL's) . I have my eye on a circa 1970 rifle just like the pair above , but in need of a reblue . If by some stroke of luck I can get this one at a price I like my plann would be to chop the barrel to 18 3/4" and reblue the metal work as well as refinish the stock so I had a sort of retro of the Marlin "444P" . But this ones still in the planning stages and then once the works done I need to get it shooting a bullet well
