Rhys.94.375,

Nice pictures & good times!

How did your friend shoot that deer, when that handle on the top of his rifle obscures the sights? :D  :!: :?:

hunting in an around the victorian high country.

mates rifle is a A bolt in 270. shot was about 80 meters.

Its got 20 points if i remember correctly with palms on both sides, with a few extra points off the main... which is great for around here as alot of "inbreds" are around with split palms an just pelosi antlers. so its great to have got a nice head!

Neato--Is that the kind of deer that you can make stag grips from? Also, looks like thick hunting to me. How long was the shot?

The good thing about where we hunt, is it can go from farmland, to fringe, to thick bush, pines with grassy clearings an creeks in gulleys.

As you can see im on the edge of the thick bush over lookin a little clearin near the pines,

where as in this picture, is takin in the bush. that runs beside the pines
Image

an this is not as thick but with more clearings an more visability

an a clearing in the pines(spot the doe)

The rut should start around Easter....even before. The deer have started to group up slowly now

we heard 2 bucks bark at each other from ontop of a hill, toward one down the bottom in the gulley (im guessing as a stay away warning)
I was suprised all the stags we have seen are in hard antler, i was expecting a little more velvet still.

the stag in the pic has some velvet on the base that hasnt been in contact with any trees or bushes but antlers very hard.

Indeed Lever4Life. they are the dreaded pest knows as black berrys!!! everywhere!

Great post and pics. Very nice stag. The meat should be good eating too, if it is anything like a Texas raised Fallow deer - mine was very tasty.
Keep up the good work.
