My new/old Ruana came in the mail today!!
When I was buying this knife I did not notice the inserts were not elk horn but are micarta. I was told that Rudy ran out of elk horn in 1982-83 and substituted micarta in it's place. Making the knife fairly easy to date to that period and not very common.
If you have a Ruana post it up!
With my Grandads very early Ruana

I never heard of them before either, and have been hunting with one since I was 12, my grandad gave me his hunting knife when I started hunting.
Someone hear at Leverguns 3 or 4 years ago saw a picture I posted of it and said it looked like an Rudy Ruana knife.
It turns out my Grandfathers knife is very rare, very early example of Rudy Ruana's work.
I have never seen any Ruana's in person other than mine. But the collectors search them out and Ruana Knives are still making new ones in Bonner, Montana. http://www.ruanaknives.com/companyhistory.aspx

I like the 21 A-Sticker—Blade: 5”, 3/16” stock. Handle: 4 3⁄4”.
Same blade as model 12 A, with a comfortable finger grip handle and
thumb grooves on top of blade for $345 and the hatch too.
Back in the day when you could count custom knife makers on the fingers of one hand, Ruana knifes were being made. Price wise they were the least expensive, but tough working knives to be used. Good stuff.
