OT: So far off topic it is an outrage (my daughter's last)
Gents, I feel bad about posting an off-topic post, but I'll try to keep them scarce as hens teeth. My daughter, Sarah, skated her last public skate before retiring from figure skating a couple weeks ago. It is kind of sad, but she now moves on to other challenges in life, as we all do. The most beautiful dance humanity is capable of in this mortal life, is performed on ice. This last skate of my daughter's was done at a community event and is called an Interpretive dance. It is more about artistic merit than about technical moves. I thought some of you might enjoy it. Hey, even a redneck like myself has a bit of culture on rare occasions. If you got dial up, don't even try to see the video ..... it will probably take a day or two to load. Here is the link .... be sure to put it on full screen. Boys, I have to confess that I'm proud of her.

You are rightly proud, Kirk. And your daughter can be proud, too. She did a lovely and technically excellent performance. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! I can see why you are proud of her Kirk. But the practice we get being wrapped around a daughter's finger comes in real handy later on. Next the granddaughters (they get to us real quick) and today I spent quite a lot of time being directed by a great-granddaughter (and brought home from our walk a pocket full of rare dandelion blossoms she found). Yep, the practice comes in handy down the road.

Fabulous Kirk - how lovely. We feel that we know them and have seen them grow and grow handsome and beautiful - thank you for posting this!!! And, I am sure she has seen the rifle - Old Savage - or has shot it or touched it or been protected by it on a wilderness trek or eaten the venison it has taken. On topic!!! On topic!!!
It is now posted on my facebook.

Well, now that you mention it, she has been protected in the northern wilderness by that 30-30 carbine and eaten the venison it provided!

Re: OT: So far off topic it is an outrage (my daughter's last)
That was really cool.
I pretty much enjoy watching humans do ANYTHING that they can pursue excellence[/i] in - it can be amazing and humbling to see the 'envelope' pushed in so many directions artistically, intellectually, mechanically, physically, etc.
It seems like skating in the dark with those moving spotlights would be VERY disorienting, but she obviously didn't seem to be bothered by it.
As far as the 'redneck' thing - I love it when stereotypes are violated - the hilljack reading Shakespeare instead of L'Amour, the trucker listening to Brahms instead of Hank, or the neurosurgeon who is a Cowboy Action Shooter instead of a golfer. I try to break as many stereotypes as I can, just to irritate and confuse those whose world-view is based on such things...

Congratulations to your daughter and yourself. A beautiful performance. Skating takes much discipline, and that's something she can take forward into whatever endeavors lay ahead.

excellent.
Also, always very good to see someone in a sport with such extreme physical stress on their body back off before they get hurt. This holds for ballet dancers, basketball players.
I don't know how you can contain your pride.

Kirk, you have every right to be a proud father. That was beautiful. I can't even stand up on ice skates but I have always enjoyed watching those who can and do.

Kirk,
OK, since I'm on dial up and my box won't work on any videos lately here is a request. Go through the video and pull a frame off that you feel best represents her skating and post it on the forum. At least we'll get to see something.
I always wanted a daughter to spoil. Aw welll.

Sarah's last dance was lovely! I know you and her mom are proud of her. Someday she can show that video to her own children. They will say, "Wow, is that really you, mom!!!" I used to ice dance. Going to the rink then and hearing the music and blades cutting the ice always gave me goose bumps and great joy. Sarah's video did that for me again! Thanks for sharing it with us, Kirk. Victor

Beaker, she isn't completely hanging them up. She still plans to skate with a synchronized skating team (kind of like an ice dance, except there are 16 girls skating in a synchronized dance).
Joe, here is a tiny 5 second clip that is also reduced in size. It will probably still take a few minutes to load, but it is nice. If it is too big a file, let me know and I will make a microscopic 1 second clip.

Re: OT: So far off topic it is an outrage (my daughter's last)
She has at that. She just joined the high school girls rugby team and the coach is very impressed with how hard she can hit, how fast she can run, and how she can keep on going after being tackled, dragging the tacklers along or breaking through them. For some reason, I think my girls should be experienced at taking hits and cracking a few skulls in case the chips are down and there is no man there to protect them, though I pray God's protection on them all the days of their lives. She also went skating with the high school boys hockey team and they couldn't keep up to her. She ended up showing them how to do a simple jump. So there was the hockey team, practicing figure skating jumps!! It never ceases to amaze me at what sweet girls can get tough guys to do!!jd45 wrote:Kirk, your daughter was magnificent!
