SUREFIRE 6P Accident :-(( (update;-)

Post by cshold »

My all time favorite flashlight had an accident… :(
Opened the gun safe and out rolled my little 6P onto the hardwood floor “OUCH” :o
The one time I wish the falling object would have landed on my foot. :x
SUREFIRE claims their lights are bomb proof, but I guess there not Mike proof.
Put a big dent in the head and cracked the plastic lens retaining ring.

Mine is an inexperienced opinion, but I've got the impression that the Surefire is no better than any number of 'generic' LED lights available at 1/4th the cost. There ARE some really BAD 'clones' out there, but there are also some super-good ones.

None of them is perfect.

Mike they sure did…. :D :D :D

The letter I sent to SUREFIRE & the response I received back within 15 min.
This is serious customer service, and a company I will continue to do business with
and recommend to others.

Dear Customer Service,

I love my “SUREFIRE 6P” TO pieces…

It took a tumble “rolled” out of my gun safe and hit the
hardwood floor the other day and got hurt.

The head got dented and the plastic lens ring got cracked in half.

I was wondering if ya’ll had these two parts available to make my
6P all better again ????

Thanks so much for the greatest flashlights in the world,

I have carried SureFire lights for many years and have had nothing but excellent service from both the lights and the company. :D

I have some less expensive lights that I like a LOT, but a few are no longer sold by the place I bought them from and I don't know WHO would honor any kind of warranty or even SELL me parts. In addition, about every six months your lights become obsolete because they keep making new models with better LEDs. I do like my cheaper lights, but I keep the Surefires in the bags that count - the gear I grab when I know I really, really need the stuff to work.

And they danged well oughta replace a few parts for free for what they charge for a new one!

Glad I got mine when I did.

THAT is something you quite likely won't get from the 'clone' manufacturers!

...although if for the same price I can have three spares already on hand, it still beats the phone call to customer service.

Surefire products are expensive but they are well warrantied and built pretty strong. They got behind the technology curve with LED's for a while but they are now catching up.

I carry a 6z on my belt every day at work. It's the most used piece of kit I use. I'd be lost without it. And, years ago just after I got it the bulb went out. Had about 30 minuts of use. I called the company and they sent me two bulbs w/o charge. I'm still using the first replacement and it's been working alot for about 13 years.

That 6P is my all time favorite hunting light. So it is dedicated to just that. 8)
When a gun comes out of the safe for a hunt the 6P comes out and the batteries are installed.
The couple of Mag lights I have laying around the house are for the “everything else use”.

That would be why I prefer my Elzetta. You can run over it with a truck and it will not be damaged. And if you do damage it, you will get great warranty and customer service. I have seen several surefires that had broken bezels or dented bezel rings. Great service is good, but built like a tank durability is better.

Well that settles it for me. The mini Maglight will have to take a back seat. With customer service like that you can't loose. My birthday is later this month and I have been a good boy.

Rusty, I too am a fan of the Mini MagLite’s :)
But the day I fired up my little SureFire 6P on a very overcast drizzly and dark
first day of Deer season morning, those reflective tacks jumped out to my
deer spot like a WOW! daytime moment. :o
I think I could have followed them without my glasses.
(and I’m all but blind without my glasses :( )

I think that plastic lens that cracked is actually pyrex glass isnt it? Have 2 surefires, about to buy a 3rd to keep in the jeep. Well made American manufactured product.

What actually cracked was the lens retainer ring, and you'r probably very
right about the lens material coyote, they do have to be able to take
some heat. :)
