OT -OH BOY! $$$$ A rare one, for you S&W collectors

Post by jdad »

I really would like to bid on this one, but I have an idea it's going to be won by someone who wants it a whole lot more (and has a whole lot more funds) than I.

Only about 1500 made.

I suspect that it will go substantially higher than the $340 current bid. It is certainly a beauty.

That's about as perfect a S&W as I've seen anywhere. I'm not sure I'd want it though. If I had it I'd shoot the daylights out of it.

If the price was right I wouldnt mind owning it. I have heard of them before. It will be interesting to see what it goes for. I will guess about $700 to $950. I would be interested around $500s.

I bet it will go well over $1k. This Model 17 is no where near as rare and it's almost $800.

Without openning my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, I'd be a bit suspicious as to its "rarity". Maybe, maybe not, but these days folks seem to claim every firearm for sale is "rare". Still, even if it isn't rare, it's a very nice looking older Smith. If I saw it in a shop, I'd gobble it up. But I won't do auctions. They only result in folks overpaying for a firearm, and that inturn artifically inflates prices elsewhere. The whole online auction situation has pushed prices of older firearms, especially Smiths way out of line with there true value.

Oh, it`s pretty rare alright. I am a smith collector but a cheap one. Jack the dog always has fine straight stuff. When I say I would be "interested" at $500 generaly other collectors are willing to pay 1G. Thats why I dont own one similar to that one.

If you scroll down, to the second to last picture, you can read the S&W factory letter verifying it's rarity. And yes, I do agree that the "collector" grade S&W prices have pushed the "shooter" grade up with them. They're worth what someone is willing to pay, for them.

See what happens, with a few good photos, a little rarity & condition, and starting at .01. I wish it were that simple.

Sure was nice! I don't see how you loose with something as mint as that. If he paid that price it'll be worth more soon.

Best,

I sold a S&W Model 15 Masterpiece a few years back for 920 bucks. It was marked USAF and I had gotten the historic letter from S&W. Wish I would have kept that one.

I'd like to know how to take pics like that. Good grief!

The Colt Diamondback is not so rare but up there in price too. 22 and 38 spec. Had the 22, sold it to uncle, he died and now my aunt can't find this gun. 2000 or more NIB. My uncles might bring 1400.

That's the cleanest gun I've ever seen.
