Cool photo.
Any ideas what the caliber is? The mag. tube looks a little slender to me, could it be a 32-20?

+1 Very cool.

Standing in front of a painted background.
Do you suppose they had him trying to sell '73s?

I'd like to know the story behind the ring on his finger.

This is of course a posed picture.

But look at his hands and his facial expression. He's got a death grip on that rifle, he's almost to the point of white knuckles with his finger on the trigger. And the expression, a reflective expression if there ever was one.

I'd bet he was wishing that rifle was loaded and he was still free to roam his territory, hunt buffalo and kill yellow legged calvary soldiers.

Either that or he's trying his living level best not to brain the photographer with the butt of that rifle.

I have seen this pic before. I believe it was taken while the good chief was with Bill Cody and the Wild West Show. :)

Back in the 50s on the early tv show the $64 question, they had wyatt earps nephew that was a old man. They asked him some question involeing a colt peacemaker. They gave him one to point out the question. He took it fondeled it and put the host on the spot asking him if he could keep it. Any of you old enough to remember seeing him on that show about 1955?

That may or may not have been his rifle. Studio photographers in those days kept a stock of props and guns were part of that stock.

Sitting Bull was a hell of a man and deserved a far better death than he received at the hands of the so called "Indian Police". He along with Crazy Horse, Chief Joseph, Red Cloud, Quanah Parker and a others are truly great Americans. This land is greater for them having walked upon it.
