Wrapping a lever
I seem to remember a post some time ago with step by step instructions, including pictures, on wrapping leather tightly around a lever on a leveraction. Does anyone remember that post - and have a link to it?
Re: Wrapping a lever
I do remember a couple of lever wrapping threads over the years YK.
I just kind of did my own thing with some old pieces of slipper leather.
Done right or wrong, I think it came out looking about half decent.

Re: Wrapping a lever
Here's mine. I took the leather from a baseball mitt stringing kit, added some gun oil to it to darken it and also protect the lever under the wrap. A longer piece of leather would have been better, but I like being able to slide this back and forth to get rid of any crud that might form, and oil the lever too:
It's just like making a noose...fold the leather over (laying it along the lever with the length you desire), . Start at one end and wrap the tag end around the leather until you get to the end of the folded length. Tuck the tag end into the loop. Pull the other tag end until the loop tighten. Snip and you are done (unless you want to weave it back in to hide it a bit).
I have the link to the other threads somewhere...I'll post them.

Re: Wrapping a lever
You absolutely cannot beat these lever wraps. They are some of the best out there and will not cause rust. They look good too. only 20.00

Re: Wrapping a lever
Just a word of caution, I am sure your aware of this, but as a reminder, that Leather Wrap will promote rust!

I run paracord wraps on some of my levers.

Grease to prevent rust?
Question: Would a good coat of either gun grease or automotive paste wax
on the lever, applied before installing the wrap, prevent rust?
Just a thought.

Re: Wrapping a lever
I use a lace-on wrap (I sell em too, but so do others) and the drill is to liberally wet both sides of the leather with gun oil before installing it. The oil protects the steel and makes the leather easier to bend to shape. I've run the guns in the wet, etc and after two years, no issues with rust. Stay clear of old scraps of chrome-tanned leather. If wet, it will eat bluing while ya watch.

I liberally applied gun oil to the leather before wrapping. In three years, I haven't had any indications of rust.John in MS wrote:Question: Would a good coat of either gun grease or automotive paste wax
