Do anyone have recent FFL application experience? (My sons are interested in securing a licence.)
03/June-2011
BATF meeting today. All went very well. So far we are well on our way and look forward to opening our business this summer.
Research and completion of requirements seems to be paying off.

How helpful they are depends on their (the ATF folks) perceived intentions. If you are serious about making a business out of it and have a building that is properly protected against theft then the road will be more smooth. If they are just looking for a license as a way to cheaper guns for themselves and have no business facility, it will be a tough road if they get one at all. I know a couple of guys in OR that went through the process about three years ago but they were prepared for serious business and had the building and all their other ducks in a row and they had nearly zero problems with little delays or approval from ATF. In fact the agents were complimentary that they were putting together a serious business and not just some guys goofing around in their garage. So garage goofers ARE looked on with suspicion.
What type of FFL: Type 3--"Curio and Relic", Type 1 -- "Dealer", or one of the other FFL's?
ATF will not issue any FFL unless the applicant and/or business complies with all Sate and local restrictions, ordinances, etc.

In real life may you be the bad butt that you claim to be on social media.
We're thinking a home-based internet sales Type 1-- Dealer. We're setting up a LLC run out of a home 'secure' office in a rural county area. Are we crazy??

I don't know, but all the home based guys around here are no longer in business, to the best of my knowledge. It seems ATF wants a dedicated store front business.
My money has been sent and the check cased a month ago, Still no license and mine expired 1 March.

Will you be handling any actual firearms or just a "middle man" between the manufacturer/importer and the end user? I would think if you actually had firearms on site, a full blown store front/secure building would be better in the ATF's eyes...

The intent, at least at this time anyhow, is to receive and ship firearms of various types. No issues were noted with our BATF interview .

Last summer the boss man's renewal was late by about 2½ months. He got a letter extending the old license to cover that period. Apparently, the BATFE was backlogged.

Maybe they are too busy gunwalking weapons to Mexican Narcos, in a fast and furious manner!
