I picked this old beater up the other day. Been working on a New Mexico ranch since 1981 or so. Bore is a 10. Action is really nice! I know next to nothing about these modern Winchesters, so a couple of questions for the experts:
1. What is it worth?
2. What should I do with it? Rebuild, leave it alone, or....?

It looks just like mine from '77. I just wipe it down every once in a while, and don't have to worry about scratching it. All my guns are users, but my 94 looks used the most. People are comfortable handling it cause they don't have be too careful.

1, What you paid for it, plus all the use you'll get out of it.
2, Leave it alone, and use it. That's one Winchester you can use without any fear of hurting it.

+3... Its a shooter post 64.
Or ???
The receiver is worth as much as I would give for the gun complete.
If you like projects, fix it up. If you dont, dont.
My dad picked up a Marlin straight stock in 30-30 that had been a New Mexico Rancher's for close to 40 years. I think he paid $150 for it. Looks about the same as yours, but it's a great shooter. I'd leave it alone and make it an all purpose truck gun. Maybe spray some Brownell's epoxy on it or some Duracoat just to keep it from rusting.
"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen" - Samuel Adams
You need to leave it like it is. Keep that one close, and use it whenever you need it. That rifle says "utility with class". That's a good buy. Congratulations!

Thanks fellas! Spoken like the dedicated group of levergun lovers that you are. I kinda like it just as it is, as well. It earned it's stripes honestly, so I think I'll just leave it as found.

I ordered some Brownells Oxpho-Blue , cold blue . Turned out pretty well , on a Winny M92 that had been converted to .357 Mag . .
Best cold blue I have ever used . Most of the cold blue I have tried ( from KMart or WalleyWorls ) is pretty much worthless .
If it had been in original caliber , I would not have messed with it .
If yours is a pre-64 rifle , I probably would not mess with it . Post-64 , I would probably re-blue it , for rust protection , if for no other reason .
