Forum hosting - it's that time of year again...

Actually, it's that time of every TWO years since our hosting is bi-annual. We need to raise $215 for hosting. Note, this for the the FORUM, it is separate from leverguns.com and is hosted on a different server. I do believe you will have noticed that it has run very smoothly the past couple years since we moved to new quarters, unlike the fits and stops and crankiness we experienced before. So this fund raiser is for the FORUM (where you are reading this note). Part of the reason for the smooth running is that we have a VPS MySQL server. That is what does the heavy lifting on the forum. That costs us $7.50 a month for a total of $180 for the two years. That brings us to a total of $395.00 we need to raise for the next two years of hosting. The VPS MySQL server can be paid monthly, but we need the $215 up front for the main hosting. This is probably more info than most of you want, but we do our best to be up front and transparent about this. Neither Hobie nor Dave nor I receive anything from this than the satisfaction of helping to make the site run smoothly.

We have two ways of contributing. I'll let folks know the running total received as we go along. Some folks have been asking about this and the time is now.

Save yourself the lecture effort, PayPal has its problems but I'm overseas and this is the easiest way to handle funds for this effort.

Another way, using a credit card so you don't have to have a PayPal account, is to go to:

alnitak, I'm not sure about the auction. Since that was run by one of the guys, we'll see if they step up to do something similar this year.

Okeydoke, guys. At 10:15 EST on January 6, 2011 we have reached 428.00 via Paypal. This does not take into consideration funds sent via snail mail. We'll have to wait a week or so for the checks to arrive and be deposited and then I'll put up a total for the fund raiser. Funds will be deposited on account so that we'll have a positive balance for next time as well as a good cushion for any future growth in bandwidth/processor load that may develop.

So the fund raiser is now officially over. Thanks for participating. You guys are what make this forum worth hanging out on. Thanks for helping us to keep it not only add free but also running on a decent server.
