OT-Old Coin Question

Post by DerekR »

My wife and I enjoy buying old coins. We have a decent collection of Morgans and such from the mid to late 1800s. Last week we bought a Seated Liberty Half Dollar from 1858. It is amazing to hold a 150 year old coin! We are wondering what a Half Dollar would have bought in 1858? Anybody know how we could hazard a guess?

Try this:

http://www.halfhill.com/inflation.html

Otherwise just google "inflation calculator" and you'll find more stuff.

That's a pretty neat program. I put it in my favorites.

Don't know about 1858....but my Granpa told me he worked in the Oklahoma oil fields in the 1920's for "fifty cents a day and found" and that was considered very good wages............................
