Price ckeck on a Marlin 39-A"Mountie".......??? UPDATED

Post by Boreman »

Stopped in my local Pawn Shop :o On the wall was this little Marlin that I would like to add to my collection.I checked GB and AA and GA. I could only find 2 Mountie's on GA.They were listed at $749 and $699 respectively. This rifle is a take down straight stocked model 39-A with figured wood in the butt stock.I would rate the metal and bluing overall at 85%.The V SN indicates a 1961 model that appears to be all original. The 2 rifles I found on GA,IMO,doesn't give me much of an idea of a fair price for this rifle. What say you ??????????????

You need to RUN back there and get that gun... NOW! We never see those guns here in the "east" of you but do see the longer rifles. Those are going for $450+ in about the same condition. The Mounties are considered more desirable, at least around here now.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Please don't take this in the wrong way - but at half the prices you saw on GB & GA, you're UNCONSIOUS ! !

I hear you fellows loud and clear. I took your collective advice.I went back to the pawn shop,in a toad drowning downpour, and I now have a little Marlin "Mountie" in the collection.Thankfully it was still there. This shop does a banner gun business this time of year.
I would like to post a picture, but I don't have the talent to do that.
It is a nice Christmas present to myself.

+1 indeed a Merry One. Nice snag.
"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work."

Boreman,

Mounties seem to be in high demand, are sought after, and appropriately priced. I've been looking for one in excellent condition and I expect to have to give upwards of $600 for a rifle that sold for ~$69.00 forty or fifty years ago. I believe you've found yourself a bargain - shoot a tube through it for me. If any forum member has an excellent Mountie for sale....

Sounds like a good deal. I'd like to have one of those myself. Bought two of them for my sons about 35 years ago. They still have 'em.

That was a lucky score right there! It is hard to find a good Mountie period and that was about a give away.
