OT- Record book Aoudad
Quick report - this client wanted a big aoudad ram. I scouted our property and could only find one maybe. Another property had one big one but probably about 31 inch. I scouted another friends ranch and located a group of huge rams. My friend Richard sat with the client until the rams showed and then put the sneak on. On shot at a bit over 100 yards with a 7mm Rem Mag shooting handloads did it. It measures 34 1/8 X 33 5/8 and has over 14.5" bases. It will score in the top 15 SCI of all time.

I had to read up a bit on them, but I'm surprised to find out that they were imported after WWII, could not be contained and are now flourishing in Texas on their own. Does Texas recognize them as a game species, or are they a special hunt only organized on private land?

Blaine - these animals are considered exotic in Texas (no season or bag limit). I first encountered them almost thirty years ago while hunting a big ranch on the Devil's River, down close to Mexico. I was in a huge Oak tree and saw two biggins about 125 yards off on top of a tall sheer cliff - my Rem pump .22 was not up to the task, and I was not up to climbing that cliff face by a long shot. I did get a mess of squirrels, a big yellowcat, and a turkey that day, and ate good on the ranch that week.

Octagon,
I too have hunted the Devils River area - a most interesting stream it is too. We had a very pleasant tailgate lunch one day at the low water crossing just west of the the TXDOT depot in Juno. This was just east and north of the river canyon.

CRS: The Devil's is a fantastic river. I used to be a catfisher till I discovered bass fishing - it is plum full of bass. The place I go has almost two miles of river on it, but is mostly 27 sections of rocks and desert. It is pretty close to Bakers Crossing. Alas, the days of slipping across the border at night for frog legs, cheap beer and cultural exchange are over for me, and I plan to keep what little culture I have left.

I used to see so many of these pesty critters out in Palo Pinto county when I was hunting out there that I was surprised to learn that folks actually hunt them on purpose. The one or two that I took meat off of before I just started throwing rocks to chase them away were whatcha might call "gamey".
