OT - Happy Birthday US Marine Corp

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Well, I'm a little less than an hour early, but wanted to be the first to wish Jeremy and the other Marines here on the forum (there is no such thing as a "former" Marine") a "Happy Birthday" to the Corp!

JR - I know you'll appreciate this!

On this our 235th birthday, to all past and present fellow Marines a hearty “Semper Fidelis”!

Back when I was in the Corps, (1964 - 68) I had the pleasure to serve with pre-WWII, WW II, and Chosin Marines. The pre-WW II Marines always lamented that “it wasn’t like it was back in the Ol’ Corps”.

And speaking of the Ol’ Corps, here’s a ditty that I once heard!’

The Ol’ Corps?

The Old Corps, the Ol’ Corps, the Ol’ Corps.

That’s all I ever hear ’“not like it was back in the Ol’ Corps.

But as Tunn‘s first Marine sneered when the second appeared, “It’s not like it was back in the Ol’ Corps”….

The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

I've attended many a Marine Birthday Ball as a member of a dance band that played for you guys. There were never finer hosts and we were never treated better. You guys are a class act. At the Marine Finance in Kansas City, in 1972, the Head Table got into a breadroll throwing war with the first couple rows of Marines. I drove the bus for my outfit and don't really remember the drive back to Ft Leavenworth. Those truly were some of the good old days.

If you were a Marine in 1950 and were told this fuzzy faced kid was your Assistant Battalion Surgeon - would that have inspired confidence - or just given you one more reason to try to avoid getting wounded ???

Image

Those Jarheads were tough - they accepted him !!! Eventually, he did show some signs of maturity - and ability to have friends in for happy hour - who thought he was OK also -

Corps... Marine Corps...

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

A belated HBD to my Green Brothers; Semper Fi!

(Joining the party in time to sweep up the confetti and pull the paper off the tables; our internet was DOA for most of Wednesday.)
